MILLER, William A.

William A. Miller, 94, of Coventry, CT, devoted husband of Claudia (Willnauer) for 63 years passed away peacefully Thursday November 22, 2012. Born in Davis, CA, December 20, 1917 son of Frank and Elizabeth Miller and grew up in Pioche, NV. Employed by Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, CT as their Technical Librarian. Served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. Received degrees from University of Nevada, Trinity College, Hartford, CT and the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT with Master's degree in History. He enjoyed travel with Claudia and all their children, making many trips around the US and to visit his parents in Reno, NV. He also enjoyed following UCONN Women's basketball. William is predeceased by his two brothers Wendell "Pete" Miller and Joseph Miller and sister Amelda "Mel" Schultz. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children David Miller (Tricia) Alstead, NH, Marilee Manning (Thomas) Bolton, CT, Heidi Field (Donald) Mansfield Center, CT, Glenn Miller (Carol-Lynn) Coventry, CT, Gordon Miller (Patricia) Surrey, ND and Noel Miller (Marcia) Coventry, CT, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and two on the way. William was a member of the Coventry Democratic Committee, a 59 year member of Coventry Grange #75, East Central Pomona Grange #3, and the Connecticut State Grange-Legislative Director 1976-1990. William was a coach for the Coventry Youth Baseball and Midget Football Leagues, was a member of the Building Committee for the Coventry Town Hall and Chairman of the Captain Nathan Hale Middle School Building Committee. William was a lover of music and staunch supporter of the Coventry High School Band, through his famous Roast Beef Dinners which raised thousands of dollars for exchange trips to Coventry, England. The Rotary Club in Coventry also enjoyed his home cooked meals for their meetings for 18 years. He was a member of the Coventry Historical Society as well as the Connecticut Society of Genealogists. He was a faithful communicant at St. Maurice Church in Bolton, CT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday. Nov. 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Maurice Church 32 Hebron Road Bolton, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Rose Hill Memorial Park. There are no calling hours.
