I never got to meet this wonderful man but I know that he was loved by many and is still miss everyday. I wish I could have meet him so I could say that I knew him he is a hero in my eyes and always will be. When ever I have to do something for school and it has anything to do with a hero Chris is the first person to come to my mind.

As I join my former 2/1 Marine for his university graduation this week, we will both be remembering these brothers from that 2/1 deployment and their heroic family and friends.
I have shared this story with the teen boys I work with, most of whom will not be eligble for the military, and encouraged them to seek out a fallen soldier to carry in their hearts as one inspiration for serving others with their own lives.

So long and yet it seems like yesterday. These 2/1 Marines and their loved ones from that deployment 5 years ago have been in my mind all month and particularly over Labor Day weekend. It was a trip back in time to my hometown, complete with fair and patriotic rodeo grand entry with a tribute to those who served. New to me was the sold out concert the night before, and everyone was talking about how the entertainer had sung a patriotic theme and then brought a group of Marines in dress blues up on stage to receive a large toys for tots contribution. The crowd gave the Marines a standing ovation and wouldn’t sit down. It was a good feeling to know that across the country similar celebrations of gratitude were happening. And despite the thrill of dress blues, we all know it’s the hot sweaty dirty guys out in the grit and sand in digital camos and desert boots that we are cheering for.
Then I came home and opened the e-mail forward with the u-tube video showing the signal motion for gratitude to our service men and women; hand over heart down to open hand, so natural and unobtrusive. Bless who ever came up with it.
So we remember these sons and their families and friends with gratitude and honor once again.
May God Bless You All, heart to hand.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family and friends of Cpl. Christopher Ebert: On Saturday, June 14th (Flag Day) there will be an event in Topeka, KS called The Reading. Volunteers will be reading the names of the fallen from Iraq and Afghanistan. I'll be Reading Cpl. Christopher Ebert's name. Each Reader is given a page of 50 names - first name, middle initial, last name, date of death and home state. After each name a bell will toll. The event is expected to take approximately 6 hours to complete. It's important to me the family know of this event in memory of their loved one. I didn't know Cpl. Ebert but it will be an honor to same his name in memory. To his mom Shirley - he looked just like you. What a beautiful smile. Your son has not been forgotten. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Chris you are remembered from far away by many of us who never had the chance to know you but send best wishes to your family and friends. So close to coming home. As September came, I thought of you and that I needed see what the date was. Days passed and then up pops a message that you have a new guest book entry. So this entry is a day late, but you have been in my thoughts all month. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Anbar province today is becoming a tribute to your efforts.

August 13, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Chris is in our hearts as the first year has nearly passed. We did not know Chris but Darrell served with the 2/1 in Fallujah during the same deployment. We were so sad to lose another 2/1 son so close to coming home. I was part of an informal 2/1 parent email group during the deployment and since and we wish Chris's family and friends to know Chris will always be remembered each year. I am not alone I know, in saying that Chris's family and friends have a whole virtual circle of supportive 2/1 Marine parents keeping them close in thoughts and prayers. We all know it could have happened to any of us, and these sons' names are engraved in our hearts for our lifetimes.

May God bless and keep you.
