Kathryn Way Obituary

Kathryn M. Way, 83, of Smithfield, died on Wednesday, the 22nd day of December, 2021, at her residence. Born in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of the late George Thomas and Thelma Louise Hundley Roberts and the widow of Kenneth Way. She was a member of the Methodist Church. A retired fiscal officer of the Department of Community Services in the Kentucky Corrections Cabinet, she served from 1977-1978 as president of the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency. She also formerly served as the secretary of the Probation and Parole Executive Council, and as a member of the Commonwealth Credit Union Credit Committee. With her late husband, she co-founded the Our Best Restaurant in Smithfield and was active in the operation of the family business from August of 1990 until 2017. Many of her family recipes are still featured on the Our Best menu. Her favorite hobbies included genealogy.
Her survivors include her son, Kenny Way and his wife, Suzy, of Smithfield; her grandson, Aric Way and his wife, Brittney, also of Smithfield; and her three great-grandchildren, Kenley Way, Ayden Way, and Malin Way.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, the 28th day of December, 2021, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Kenny Way officiating. Masks are required in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Eminence Cemetery in Eminence, Kentucky. Visitation was also held Tuesday at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville.
