Carl Roy Obituary

Carl Clinton Roy of Houston passed away December 2, 2022. He is preceded in death by his mother, Avis Louise Turpen Wininger, father, H.C. Roy, sister, Patsy Ruth Roy Cotton, former wife Doris Roy Hintze, and his uncle, George Turpen.

Carl was born in Seminole, Oklahoma in 1931, and at his death he was just a few days away from his 91st birthday. Carl graduated from Alice High School in 1948 and attended the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas and North Texas State College where he made many lifelong friendships. Following his graduation from North Texas, Carl served in the Army and attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks where among other things he contributed to the creation of the Alaska state constitution. Later while serving as a Spanish teacher in Houston he attended South Texas College of Law and following graduation he practiced law for more than 50 years.

He was hard to beat on the tennis court and was often state ranked in his age group, including achieving the number one ranking at the age of 75. He was also a skilled snow skier and smart bridge player. He loved Jesus, and was a deacon at South Main Baptist Church Pasadena in his early married years.

He is survived by his three daughters: Carla (Ken) Lasater of Bowie, TX; Fayrene (Rick) Scott of Tomball, TX; and Rachel (Jeff) Bullen of Spring, TX. He was a proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren, who along with their spouses are all Texas A&M graduates, and 15 great-grandchildren.
