I had the pleasure of sharing an office with Dr. Fricke during the summer of 1970 when he was working with Celanese Fibers Co., Charlotte, NC. He was a good friend and mentor who helped greatly with my transition from academia to industry. My one regret is I did not try to make contact with him again until it was too late. My wife, Karen, and I send our sincere condolences to his wife and family.

Dr. Fricke was a great mentor and friend during my graduate years at Virginia Tech. When I was close to finishing my Ph.D. and had many job offers to consider, I asked him for advice on choosing the best company to join. His advice was simple; "Go to the company that needs you the most." That led me to choose Procter & Gamble where I spent 32.5 years and advanced to the top tier of P&G's Technical Career System. In the early 1980s, Art spent a 1 year industrial sabbatical with my group at P&G where he provided key insights into polymer processing problems and other materials issues facing the Company.

Dr Art Fricke was my guide for my Master of Science Degree at Virginia Tech during 1970 to 1971, at Blacksburg, Va. He directed my research on Filled Polymer Systems and helped me with my research and encouraged me to publish the findings in a paper at the Virginia Academy of Sciences at Blacksburg in 1971. When I came as an International Student for the first time from India, he patiently explained to me many points, both professional and personal. After I went back to my country in 1972, I was in touch with him by letters, twice. Now I am in USA as a visitor from July 16, 2017 and had been trying to locate him, before I depart on August 27, 2017 back to India.. I succeeded today, but what a tragedy, only to learn that just 20 days before he had passed away. I hope his last days were not difficult.
Dr Fricke was a wonderful human being, apart from being academically brilliant, with a vision for practical application of all the knowledge that he freely shared.
I will always remember him with fond memories and gratitude.
To his family members who are feeling his loss, I add that I too will be often thinking of him, even if I am in India, many thousands of miles away. How I wish I had been able to meet him in person. Alas, that was not to be.
I pray to the Good Lord to make this Good Son of the Lord, Rest in Peace.

I am the daughter of Benjamin & Anita Sander of Branchland. Ollie Saunders was my uncle. I have only heard of Dr Fricke but always felt proud of knowing he was a member of our family. My thoughts and prayers go out to Alice and family. Love to all, Drema Sanders Frazier.
