Betty Sturgeon Obituary


BETTY CAROLYN STURGEON, 82, of Ashton, WV, passed away peacefully with family by her side into her heavenly home Thursday, May 16, 2024, in St. Mary's Medical Center after a brief illness.
Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Betty was born March 26, 1942, in Ashton, the daughter of the late John Donald Tolliver and Lola Belle Scarberry Tolliver.
Betty retired from Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant. She was a member of the Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin "Pood" Sturgeon; sons Paul Wayne Sturgeon and Tony Lee Sturgeon; granddaughter Tasha Ann Sturgeon; sisters Eileen Wray, Geraldine Price and Charlotte Richardson; and brothers Leo Tolliver, Kenneth Tolliver, Charles Tolliver and Richard Tolliver.
Betty is survived by a great-grandson, Dante Rhodes of Gallipolis Ferry, WV; sister Avalee (Belford) Saunders of Glenwood; brother Lester Tolliver of Lesage; and a very special furry friend Zoey.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Ronald Long officiating. Burial will follow in Moore's Chapel Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to service.
