GENE WILSON Obituary

GENE PAUL "WILSON" WILSON, 84, of Barboursville, W.Va., finished his race on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. After a full life of service to others - and a long battle with Alzheimer's disease - he went home peacefully to be with the Lord. Gene graduated from Huntington High School - where he also met his lifelong love, Anna Lee "AL" Winkler. They married in 1953 and had three children, Gene Paul Jr., Randall Scott and Lisa Ann. During the Korean Conflict, he served our country in the Air Force's Strategic Air Command Refueling Squadron. Afterward, he worked at F.W. Means and Rose Laundry. He was known for his commitment to service, for doing right by people, for standing up for principles, for jumping in to get a job done. He was compassionate, wise, loving, practical - and full of optimism. Whatever his relationship to us - father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend - we knew he had our back, and we miss him already. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee; his mother, Gladys Ruby (Glenn) McCormick; his stepfather and mentor, Ray Wilson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gene and Vivian Bailey; his son, Gene P. Wilson Jr.; his son-in-law, Donnie Moore; and his nephew, Terry Black. Gene is survived by his daughter, Lisa Moore (Barboursville, W.Va.); his son, Randy Wilson and wife Christine (Dublin, Ohio); his grandchildren, Kyle Wilson and wife Marita (Chestertown, Md.), Julie Wilson (Austin, Texas), Brandi Wilson (Culver City, Calif.) and Zak, Cody and Addie Wilson (all in Hilliard, Ohio). In addition, he is survived by two sisters-in-law, Gloria Rawding and her husband Lee (Ellenton, Fla.) and Teresa Black and her husband Carl (Johnstown, Ohio); also his niece, Kelly Rawding Almeida, her husband Tyler and their children Nicholas and Matthew (Ellenton, Fla.); his nephew, Bill Black (Johnstown, Ohio); and his cousins by marriage, Jim and Tony Costas (Centerville, Ohio) and Rick and Janice Evans (Huntington, W.Va.). Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, W.Va. Funeral services, conducted by Pastor John Gue, will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, with military honors. We invite friends, neighbors and family to join us after the graveside service for fellowship and refreshments to celebrate his memory; please join us in the "Green and Violet" room at Holiday Inn & Suites, 3551 Rt. 60 East, Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, which accepts donations online at www.alz.org or by phone at 800-272-3900, or by mail at P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.
