George William Winters

1931 - 2025

GEORGE WILLIAM WINTERS, 94, of Lesage, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, February 27,2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 25, 1931 a son of the late Alva and Ella Winters. George was a graduate of Barboursville High School, where he played in the band and sang in the Glee Club. He was a Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict with the United State Army. He had many stories to tell of his time in Germany and how homesick he was, being that far from home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Roberts Winters, a sister, Ethel Mae Hall; a brother, Robert Lee Winters; and his father and mother-in-law, Sidney Pearl and Betty Roberts.
George began singing at a very early age and quite literally never stopped until his recent hospitalization. He sang in many different Gospel Music groups throughout the years both in local churches and on radio. He loved singing and was ready with a song at a moment's notice. He worked at Houdaille Industries for 30 years until their closing and finished his working career with the Cabell County Board of Education.
He is survived by his children, Debby Scarberry (Randy), David Winters (Sandy), Diane Hall (Bub) and Dorey Winters Rose (Willie), all of Lesage; grandchildren Adam Scarberry of Ona, Tabitha Adkins (Brian) of Ona, and Samantha Mount (Micaela) of Milton; great grandchildren Jaden, Cailyn and Emma Adkins and a host of family members he dearly loved.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church by Pastors Willie May and Jody Fortner. Burial will follow in Caldwell Cemetery, Lesage.
