HOMER BRADBURY Obituary





HOMER POE BRADBURY, 86, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Poe was born in 1930 in Huntington, the son of the late Thomas and Grace Bradbury. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy DeSilva Bradbury; two sons, Scott Crandall Bradbury and David Michael Boston; and grandson, Timothy Michael Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Judith Bradbury; daughter, Lesa Joi Taylor; and son, Robert Scott Boston; grandchildren, Nancy Taylor and Freddie Billups, Jacob Taylor, Rachel Patterson; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Billups, Logan Billups and Emmalynn Richards. Poe graduated from Marshall University with a BS Degree in Engineering. Following college, Poe joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and retired after 38 years of service. During his career with the Corps, Poe was designated the District Value Engineering Officer, contributing to the Corps' textbook for Value Engineering instruction and co-authoring the book "Value Engineering in Construction." He traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and around the world teaching courses on Value Engineering. He was presented with the Distinguished Service Award by the Society of American Value Engineers and the Decoration for Meritorious Civilian Service by the Department of the Army. He was awarded the Presidential Management Improvement Certificate for Improvement of Government Operations by President Gerald Ford. Poe was a past president of the Huntington chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers. In 1996, Poe was honored for his engineering accomplishments by induction into the Huntington East High School Hall of Fame. Poe and Judy were active members of Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church. They were dedicated to supporting their family and friends in time of need. Poe enjoyed projects around the house, particularly home improvements which drew on his extensive engineering experience. Poe maintained an active friendship with colleagues from his professional circle as well as the Tri-State area. He will be remembered by many and missed by all. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Ron Musser of Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church at noon Tuesday, February 7, at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, Huntington. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church, 2241 16th St. Road, Huntington, WV 25701 or Hospice of Huntington, PO Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.
