James Bunton Obituary

JAMES "DAVID" BUNTON passed away April 11, 2024 at his residence in Beaumont, Texas.
David was born June 15, 1952 in Huntington, W.Va., to Jim and Jane Bunton. He graduated from Vinson High School in Huntington, W.Va., and briefly attended Glenville State College. David began working as an automotive service writer for Bridgestone/Firestone in Clear Lake, Texas in 1988. After a number of years in Clear Lake, David transferred to the Deer Park store and finally relocated to Beaumont in 2000, working as manager, overseeing Firestone's service center in Beaumont. He retired from Firestone in 2013 after 25 years with the company.
David loved playing baseball and basketball and was known as "Lefty" to his teammates. He was All-State in both baseball and basketball his senior year at Vinson High School. David had a passion for history and sports - especially baseball. He could recite stats and information about current and past baseball players, their teams, stadiums, etc. At the same time, David developed a love for golf. He loved joining his sister and parents for a round or two during holidays and family get-togethers.
Starting in 2022, David began working part-time at Idylwild Golf Club in Beaumont, Texas. He looked forward to his "work-days" and loved the people he worked for and with, his customers and the entire atmosphere at Idylwild. It was truly his "happy place."
David is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Jane Bunton. He is survived by daughter Meagan Bunton of Beaumont, Texas, granddaughter Noel Avree-Jade Butler of LaPorte, Texas, sister Nancy Bunton of Stillwater, Okla., and her spouse Michele Mazza. David also leaves behind several close friends he considered family, including Trey Johnson, Jennifer and Tylon (T-Bone) Jones and Aprile Morgan.
A celebration of David's life will be held at Idylwild Golf Club in Beaumont, Texas, on June 22, 2024.
David loved his family, his furkids and Idylwild GC. For those who wish to do so, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas (https://humanesocietyofsoutheasttexas.org) or to Idylwild Golf Course, Attn: David Bell, 1100 E.
