Mark Chaffins Obituary

MARK ANDREW CHAFFINS, 50, of Kenova, West Virginia, husband of Angela S. Chaffins, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. He was born in Huntington, West Virginia on September 16, 1973, a son of Jerry E. Chaffins and the late Wanda L. Chaffins of Kenova, West Virginia. Mark was also preceded in death by a brother, John David Chaffins.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 28 years, Angela S. Chaffins; two children, Shaun M. Chaffins (fiancé, Corina) and Miranda A. Lively; father, Jerry E. Chaffins of Kenova, WV; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey E. and Rebecca S. Chaffins of Ceredo, WV; mother-in-law Renee Jackson (David, deceased) of Springfield, OH; sisters-in-law Lizabeth Jackson and Charity Martinez, both of Indianapolis, IN.; nieces and nephews, Kristen (Jason) Camp of Prince Frederick, MD, Abigail Chaffins of Kenova, WV, Charley and Benny Fark of Indianapolis, IN, Ziden Cunningham and Scarlett Martinez of Indianapolis, IN; great niece Hannah Camp of Prince Frederick, MD; and many, many close and dear friends. Mark is also survived by his beloved fur babies, Marley Jane, Lucy, Sadie, Daisy, Zoe, and Chester.
Mark graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in 1991; Marshall University with a B.S. Degree in Safety Technology in 1995; and from Marshall University with an M.S. Degree in Safety Techology in 1996. He was employed by Ershigs, Inc., as Director of Health and Safety from 2003 to 2016, until he retired due to health concerns. Mark joined the Kenova Volunteer Fire Department in 1994, and has faithfully served the Kenova community ever since. He accomplished many levels of training and earned innumerable accomplishments as he has saved lives and continuously and faithfully served his community.
Mark experienced great satisfaction in volunteering for the fire department, particularly in working with children, and his great love for being a member of the brotherhood of firefighters and emergency responders. Mark took great relish in participating in the "coffee crew" at the fire house every morning with special friends, Eddie Marcum, Tim Bias, and Trent Damron, while solving all the world's problems every day. Mark was a member of the Kenova United Methodist Church, where he accepted the Lord's gift of grace at an early age. He loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and perpetuating his firearms interests. Mark was also very proud of his do-it-yourself projects around his house. Many neighbors often mention that he was always outside working on something, while never failing to give out a shout or a friendly wave to passersby.
Mark was truly respected by his neighbors and community and will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be at Kenova United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m., with funeral services immediately after. The Rev. Andrew Tennant will be officiating. Burial will follow at Dock's Creek Cemetery.
