MAXINE WILKINSON PERDUE

1921 - 2016

MAXINE WILKINSON PERDUE, aged 95, of Lavalette, W.Va., died peacefully at home on July 28, 2016. She was born April 8, 1921, at Dickson, W.Va., the eldest daughter of the late Charles E. and Opal Irby Wilkinson. She was a graduate of Wayne High School and Marshall University, having received an A.B. and M.A. in Education. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert B. Perdue, and two sisters, Charlene Allen (Jim) of Houston, Texas and Myrtle Vinson (Eugene) of Harrisburg, Ore. She is survived by two children, David K. Perdue (Janet) of Huntington, W.Va., and Christine Perdue Smith (Turner) of Middleburg, Va.; two grandchildren, Rachel Perdue Turner (Sandy) of Huntington, W.Va., and Abigail L. Perdue of Arlington, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Heath and Wyatt Turner; one sister, Dorothy Cade (Don) of Indianapolis, Ind.; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was a retired high school teacher, having served 39 years in the Wayne County school system. She was a devout Christian, having served as a teacher at Florence Memorial United Methodist Church for 50 years and having been a member of the congregation for 66 years. She was the first president of the Women's Aglow Fellowship WV South Area Board, and a past president of the Women's Aglow Fellowship of Huntington, W.Va. She was also a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa International Sorority for Women Educators. We wish to thank her devoted and faithful caregivers for their years of service, Kay Followay, Theresa Leonard, Betty Stewart, Fay Moore and Linda McMillan. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., with the funeral service starting at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery at Wayne. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in her honor be made to either Hospice of Huntington or Florence Memorial United Methodist Church at Dickson, W.Va.
