NADYA SILL Obituary





NADYA DANILCHIK SILL, 91, of Huntington, W.Va., reposed in the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018. Nadya was born on Aug.19, 1927 in Ethelbert, Manitoba, Canada, to the late Father Michael and Anna M. Danilchik. She received her BS degree in 1944 from the University of Washington and MS degree in 1973 from Utah State University. She worked four 2-year terms in embassies of the U.S. State Department; first in Egypt, then two terms in Lebanon and then finally in Pakistan. Nadya served with the Peace Corps in Thailand and later in Washington, DC. She worked for the USDA Community Action Programs with the poverty programs in four states: Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee until 1972. Nadya retired in 1993 from the Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington, W.Va., where she served 20 years as an Upward Mobility Officer. The lands in Wayne County, W.Va., where Nadya and her husband Maurice lived from 1975 to 1990 were gifted to the Hermitage of the Holy Cross. In addition to her parents, Nadya is preceded in death by her brothers, Constantine and Walter Danilchik; and a sister, Vera Danilchik Spoerry and husband Phillip. Survivors include her loving husband, Dr. Maurice L. Sill; two nieces, Tonya Spoerry and Stephanie Gilstrap; three nephews, Andrew and Michael Danilchik and Scott Spoerry; two sisters-in-law, Bessie and Olga; and five step-children, Marilyn Donald (Dean) of Locke, N.Y., David Sill (Kaye) of Ithaca, N.Y., Kenneth Sill of Louisville, Ky., Margaret "Peggy" Travis (Alan) of Penn Yan, N.Y., and Elaine Pearson (Benjamin) of Nashville, Tenn; 16 step-grandchildren, and 17 step- great-grandchildren. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday at Christ the Savior Orthodox Christian Church, 6378 Rt. 152, Wayne. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at Christ the Savior Orthodox Christian Church, Wayne, with Father Jonah Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Hermitage of the Holy Cross Cemetery, Wayne. Following the burial, a reception will be held at the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church, 1 Wood Haven Drive, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Huntington, Inc. P.O. Box 660, Wayne, WV 25570, Hermitage of the Holy Cross, 505 Holy Cross Rd., Wayne, WV 25570, Christ the Savior Orthodox Christian Church, P.O. Box 188, Wayne, WV 25570, or to a charity of your choice in Nadya's memory. Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, is in charge of the arrangements.
