Pete Thackston Obituary

PETE THACKSTON, 64 of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away Friday, November 29th, 2024.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 12th from 5 - 8 p.m. at Beard Mortuary, and Funeral Services the following day, Friday, December 13th starting at 11 a.m. at Beard Mortuary.
He will be laid to rest in Woodmere Memorial Park.
He was born May 26, 1960, in Huntington, WV to the late Nellie Anne and Jack Thackston.
He was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University.
He was a former member of Rome Church of Christ, and in the years that followed his faith grew immensely in Jesus.
To identify only one or a few chapters of his story, one would miss the beauty of his full story. Most importantly, he deeply loved his children, his family, and Jesus, and his legacy has touched the lives of so many.
He took tremendous pride in being a devoted father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather, a coach, and a great friend.
He had a passion for athletics, business, and helping others through sobriety, and he left a strong mark in all of these.
He loved to read, eat pizza and ice cream, and spend time with his family. Dad/Pete was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by niece, Laura Heath Vass, and nephew, Frank McIntosh Vass, Jr.
He is survived by three sons, one daughter, and one daughter-in-law, Peter and Jenny Thackston of Nashville, TN; Tyler Thackston of Myrtle Beach, SC; Alex Thackston of Nashville, TN and Josie Thackston of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandchildren, Everly, Eleanor, and Emmaline Thackston of Nashville, TN; one sister, Laura Thackston of Huntington, WV; and one nephew, Joseph Vass of Huntington, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the United Way of the River Cities or the American Heart Association in Pete Thackston's honor.

I remember well playing against Pete. I was on Ceredo-Kenova High- School and I actually got hit off his lightning fastball. But what I remember about him most was his gentle kindness. Thank you, Pete, that I had the opportunity to play against a general giant. Blessings.
