PETE TRAVIS Obituary

PETE EMMANUEL TRAVIS, 87, originally of Huntington and most recently Kensington, Md., and Mechanicsburg, Pa., died peacefully in Louisville, Ky., on July 18, 2018, with his family by his side. Pete was born on July 29, 1930, in Huntington, the son of Mary and Emmanuel Travis. After graduating from The Riverside Military Academy, Marshall University and serving in the US Navy, Pete went on to create a successful piano business in Huntington. In his second career he completed a graduate degree at Marshall University and eventually moved to Washington, D.C., where he retired as a federal government employee. Single until 50, Pete married his beloved Mary Senos of Kensington, Md. Together they continued to pursue their mutual interest in travel. Pete and Mary could be found most summers residing in his father's house on the Greek island of Kythera surrounded by family. Pete was an accomplished accordionist and carried his love of music with him his entire life. He was passionate about the tango and traveling. He especially enjoyed the music of QuinTango, having never missed a performance at The Kennedy Center. Pete was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill, Pa., and a longtime member of both St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Huntington and a member of AHEPA. He was recently predeceased by his wife, Mary. Pete is survived by his sister, Alice Collis (Gus) of Louisville, Ky.; loving stepson, Jimmy Senos (Helen) of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; stepdaughter, Matina Nalley (Sam) of Sarasota, Fla.; seven step-grandchildren, Mary, John, Toni, Gus, Nick, Matthew and Sophia; nieces, Cheri Collis White (Jim) and Marilyn Collis Sexton (Jeff), all of Louisville, Ky.; brother-in-law, Peter Coutsos (Theodora), and sister-in-law, Chrystina Demopoulos. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews of Michigan and great-nieces and great-nephews of Louisville, Ky. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Pete's name to the Icon Restoration Project, Holy Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011, or to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 701 11th Ave., Huntington, WV 25701, or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Pete's two caregivers, Nina and Rosa. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill, PA. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 23, with the Trisagion abbreviated memorial service being held at 7 p.m. at Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market St., Camp Hill, PA. He will be laid to rest next to Mary at the East Harrisburg Cemetery.
