WALTER EVANS Obituary

WALTER HARRY EVANS, 80, of Kenova, W.Va., left this world of pain on Sunday morning September 20, 2015, at the Huntington VA Medical Center. He was born January 16, 1935, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Cecil A. "Whitey" and Blanch Weekley Evans. A true artisan in his craft of glass blowing he retired from Pilgrim Glass Corporation in 1981. After that, he started Cherrywood Mold Shop where for twenty-five years he made wood blocks and tool for the glass artist industry around the world. He became well-known in the glass industry and was asked to teach glass working skills at many glass exhibitions, including working at the New York World's Fair in 1964, teaching at Corning Glass Studio and many others. He was proud to have served in the US Marine Corps, and all his life he told stories of his experiences to his children, grandchildren and friends. He was special to so many people throughout his life including his late father and mother-in-law Henry and Virgie Scott. He enjoyed his time in the Paw Taw Square Dance Club. He was also a member of the Harvest Club and the American Legion Post 93. He was a former member of Westmoreland Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Kenova. During his life he touched many people with his kindness and will be missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Geneva Scott Evans and his children Larry Evans of Kenova, Jennifer A. Evans of Huntington, W.Va., and grandson Jarrod Evans (Michelle Runyon) of Kenova. He is also survived by his sister Maxine Blakely of Lavalette and brother Tom Evans of Cincinnati, Ohio; special sister-in-law Libby Hall of Ashland, Ky.; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Rollins Funeral Home, Kenova. Funeral services will be conducted by good friend Larry Larsen at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Rollins Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Its hard to believe Walter has been gone for 4 years. His blocks are still the best ever made.

Geneva, Larry and Jennifer - I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Evans' passing. I will never forget how he and Geneva opened up their home for tons of us to swim. Some of the best times of my life. Love to all of you!
