Wilma Smith Obituary

WILMA LEE COX SMITH, 87, of Barboursville, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Steve Hinkle and Pastor Monty Foster. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar. She was born July 3, 1936, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late William "Nick" and Vada McComas Cox. Wilma was also preceded in death by her husband, Elsworth "Boogie" Smith and by one brother, Ronald Cox. She was a 1954 graduate of Barboursville High School, where she won several awards in music and was a member of the All-State Band. In 1974, she joined Mary Kay Cosmetics and retired after 47 years, 19 of which she was a Sales Director. Mary Kay was a career that was perfect for her as it opened so many doors, allowing her to travel all over the U.S. including working with her team in Hawaii. Wilma met so many beautiful women and hopefully changed a lot of lives for the better. Sales helped Wilma to dream, set goals, and most of all, to help send all three of her sons to college. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, E. Allen and Kimberly D. Smith, Randall Reid-Smith, all of Barboursville, and David E. and Karen A. Smith of Fairmont, W.Va.; five granddaughters, Heather and Kenneth Glover, Trina G. Smith, Kayla and Zack Lantz, Shannon Smith and Lauren Smith; three great-grandchildren, Kayley Glover, Reese Lantz and Mac Lantz; brother and sister-in-law Roger and Linda Cox; many special friends, including Jennie Moore who was like a sister, and the entire Staff of The Village at Riverview, who we especially thank for their loving care and support for the last seven years for Wilma and Boogie. She was very blessed with her journey through life and wanted and hoped to be remembered as one who loved people, loved to pass out hugs and kisses, and leave people laughing. God is so good. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Memorial contributions may be made to Barboursville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 291, Barboursville, WV 25504. She was just so kind. I loved her spirit and style. She was by my mom's side last January when my mom passed. It touched me so much. Heaven has admitted such a special angel. My heart goes out to the family. Love Cheryl Ruley

So many fond memories of Wilma and Boogie visiting them on Sunday mornings during winter sitting by their fireplace she was always looking on the bright side. I know Allen, Randy and David will miss her but have wonderful memories to share with each other.

Allen & Kim,
I am sorry to hear about Wilma´s passing. She was such a pleasant and friendly lady. I remember going over to her house to pick up makeup. Then I´d usually stay longer and visit.
I know you will miss her. Peace be with you all.

Wilma was a customer where I worked ( in Barboursville) many years ago. She would come through the door with a smile on her face. She was always a pleasure to be around.

Mt deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Wilma was like bright star, she loved to laugh and have fun. Wilma always made sure you knew she cared about you, and she told you she loved you. She was your friend to the end. I think about her entering Heavens gate full of Joy, and spunk as she meets Jesus. What a party she must be having. My sympathy goes out to all her dear family and friends , sending you much Love, Prayers and Hugs. We will miss our Wild Wonderful Wilma and take comfort that we will see her again.

My Dear Aunt Wilma. You were my only one, and one of a kind. Growing up and the excitement of coming up in the summers and visiting Maw Maw & Paw Paw and you were the highlight of my year. You always had sound advice and judgement to offer me. But what always set you apart from the rest was your Wit & Sense of Humor. You could always make Karen & I laugh. Wonderful storyteller like Vada, and always with a funny twist. You treated us like your own and I will never forget that. God has received a wonderful soul. Something tells me when you get to the Gate, you´ll have a little dance with St. Peter. When you enter, Maw Maw & Paw Paw will be waiting. Rest in Peace Wilma. Love you dearly. Jeff
