Doris Jones Obituary

Doris E. Jones

April 8, 1943 - April 3, 2025

Doris Ellen Jones, 81, of Allerton passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital of Urbana, Illinois, surrounded by family and two dear friends.

Doris was born on April 8, 1943, to Ross T. Buchanan and M. Erlene Johnson Buchanan. She graduated from Cowden High School and Mr. John's School of Cosmetology. She worked for the Argenta/Oceana School District and later the Adolf Meyer Zone Center.

Doris owned and operated the Lincoln Street Lounge in Broadlands for 35 years. She was proud of their fried chicken and homemade rolls. She enjoyed visiting with her customers and catching up on current events. She really enjoyed the fellows at the local "Liars Tables."

On August 17, 1996, Doris married John E. Jones II in Sevierville, TN.

Doris is survived by her loving husband, John, and two children, Shara Oyler (Mike) of Decatur and Jeff Cochran (Kim) of Christiansburg, VA, and three grandchildren; Chloe Hector, Ross Hector, Jude Cochran, and stepdaughter; Stacey Jones Erdman (Burl George) of Tucson, AZ. Also, surviving are two brothers; Thomas R. Buchanan Jr. and Dennis A. Buchanan. Also, one sister-in-law, Kathy Steward (Jeff) of Philo, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter-in-law, Holly King Cochran.

She loved her flowers, Sudoku puzzles, reading, birdwatching, Sunday drives, traveling, Chicago Cubs, and Illini basketball. She dearly loved her animals, Snapper, Dolly, and Trudy.

Per her wishes, Doris will be cremated, and there will be no service. A graveside service will take place at a later date for family at the time of internment at Lower Mound Cemetery in Covington, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be made to the Champaign County Humane Society, 4003 Kearns Dr., Champaign, IL 61822.
