John Viskup Obituary

DECATUR - John Charles Viskup, 68, of Decatur, passed away at 8:23 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his home with his loving family and friends by his side. Private family services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in John's name may be made to Homeward Bound Animal Shelter. John was born December 25, 1942, in Englewood, New Jersey, the son of John and Dorothy (Wellbank) Viskup. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for six years. He was a journeyman mold maker with Saint-Gobain Containers in Lincoln, IL, where he had served as Vice-President of the Union, until his retirement in 2006. He loved art, movies, cooking, his pets, and above all his friends and family. He married Carol (Brabec) Greene April 24, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He leaves behind Carol, his beloved wife of over twelve years, sons, John Viskup, Jr. and Jeffery Vandermaas both of Oklahoma, daughter, Jessica Viskup of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, stepson, Matt Greene and wife Stephanie of Decatur, and grandson, Tiavi of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to give a special thanks to Judy, Debbie and the DMH Hospice team, Rene and the staff of the fourth floor at DMH, and especially surrogate daughter and fellow artist, Martha Hartung.
