Randall Sims Obituary

OCONEE - Randall D. Sims, 58, of Oconee died Friday, March 30, 2012 in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis. He was born March 2, 1954 in Pana, IL, son of Howard L. & Myrtle Denton Sims. A graduate of Pana High School Class of 1972, he served in the U. S. Navy. Randy lived all of his life in the Pana & Oconee areas. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church of Pana, Illinois Sheriff's Association; East Central Illinois Drug Task Force where he was a past director, organized the Shelby County Crime Stoppers and Shelby County D.A.R.E. program. He also belonged to Oconee Lions Club; Roy Ireland Post #317 American Legion, Oconee; Howard L. Sims AMVETS Post #44, Pana; OP&CMIA Local 103; and had been an Oconee Township precinct committeeman. Randy served as Shelby County Sheriff from 1990-2006. He had owned and operated Pana Pump & Motor, also had been employed as a cement mason for 10 years and was a livestock farmer. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, mushroom hunting, mowing, gardening, the outdoors, auctions, blue grass music and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He married Annette Beyers on September 6, 1975 in Sacred Heart Church, Oconee. Randy is survived by his wife: Annette Sims, Oconee, IL; sons: Brian Sims, Oconee, IL; Gary Sims & wife Gara, Charleston, IL; Mark Sims & wife Dawn, Assumption, IL; 4 grandchildren: Austin, Raegan, Briston & Syra Sims; mother: Myrtle Sims, Pana; brothers: Larry Sims & wife Cheryl, Lamoille, IL; Greg Sims & wife Lisa, Taylorville, IL; Brad Sims & wife Sharon, Pana, IL; Tim Sims & wife Lisa, Bridgeton, MO. He was preceded in death by his father on May 8, 2004 and brother Gary Leon Sims. Memorials may be made to Siteman Cancer Center, Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, MO, First United Pentecostal Church, Pana or Pana Community Hospital Foundation. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in First United Pentecostal Church, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Russell officiating. Burial will be in Price Cemetery, Oconee with graveside military rites by Roy Ireland Post #317, Oconee. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. in the church.
