Roberta Clodfelter Obituary

DECATUR - Roberta Jean Clodfelter, 79, Decatur IL passed away at 8:06 A.M. on Saturday, July 29, 2006 in Decatur Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Family and friends may share memories and prayers in a celebration of Jean's life at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Monticello Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family via e-mail to www.dawson-wikoff.com. Jean was born October 1, 1926 in Lovington the daughter of Hubert and Laura Belle (Hopper) Randol. She attended Mt. Vernon High School, graduated from Brown's Business College in 1950, obtained her GED in 1978, and attended Richland Community College after the death of her husband. She was an executive secretary at Swain and Myers for 15 years. She was a secretary at Grace Methodist Church for 5 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for 52 years. Over the years Jean enjoyed religious studies, reading, sewing, gardening, and bird watching. She especially enjoyed being with family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Jean had a gift of empathic listening and helped many friends and strangers through the difficulties of life, forming close friendships in the process. She married Dean C. Clodfelter in 1965. Dean died suddenly three weeks after his retirement in 1989. Surviving is her daughter Judy Grubbs Scrimpsher and husband Ray of Decatur, grandchildren Eric Scrimpsher of Decatur and Jennifer Woodward and husband David of Bloomington, great-grandchildren Brandon Scrimpsher and wife Amanda of Springfield and Maddie Marie and Andrew Woodward both of Bloomington, great-great-grandchildren Rowan and Hunter Scrimpsher of Springfield, nephews Joseph Phegley and wife Linda of Springfield, J. Michael Phegley and wife Aga of Breckinridge, Colorado, niece Jeannie Sue Phegley, a missionary at San Vincente in Baha, Mexico, and close friends Eddie Cooke of Decatur, Gail Meissen of Springfield, and Kathy Kabella of Portage, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Avis Phegley, who died in 1979. The family would like to thank Dr. Kahn and Dr. Dold and the nurses and staff on the neurological wing of 5100 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Obituary written by family members.
