From that first dance, you were him.
I must say what a funny, and amazing friend you were. From going to Venice beach just to listen to music, to you showing me how (people from Florida get down), to making me choose the Dolphins over all teams, you will always be that friend in my heart and memory. Again sorry about the dent in your pick up.
I pray you made peace with the Lord

I am so sad to hear of Albie's passing! As a few others here I served with Albie in Long Beach at the PRU. He was an amazing person I have never forgotten hom, though it has been 30 years since I had last seen him. I was a young kid at the time and he provided me with words of wisdom and guidance that I not only live by, but pass on to my students everyday.
I searched you today to say thank you for the influence you had one my life, I regret that it took me too long. Albie, you touched more people then you could have imagined, Rest in peace my friend.
I salute you and Thank you!
Sincerely,
Robert Stocker.

Albie...memories of Albie...my fellow Coast Guardsman, and Eleventh District connection.
Stationed together at CGD11, Long Beach was the place where we became friends.
We had the good fortune of being assigned to the Personnel Reporting Unit (PRU), a wonderful place in Cali; I fondly called my Ponderosa of San Pedro, A detachment of the Ivory Tower (CGD11). At the Ponderosa, we had more freedom of expression.
Those were the days! We were young slim and trim, fit for Coast Guard duty, land or sea that was Albie,me and the crew. Albie was a friend I appreciated. He did not mind going the extra mile. From what I could tell, Albie loved life, family and friends; he was a man always ready to give his best. He knew how to make everyone fit in.
Getting ready for work was not a chore. I wish I could say we rode up on horseback; we drove our vehicles, parked in front of the Ponderosa and went inside to get down with Coast Guard business using our pen and pencils.
Doing the job right was number one with us. I was a Yeoman and Albie, a Storekeeper; smart as a whip he went on to become a Commissioned Officer. Albie helped the PRU accomplished the mission. Most every month we had no errors, achieving the status of one hundred percent.
Thanks to people like Albie... Every day was a good day at the Ponderosa; we hardly had any frowns but there were many smiles.
Over the years, I lost touch with Albie... In my mind he remains, Albie of Long Beach, one of the finest and truly dedicated people of our Coast Guard profession.
And to you, family of Albie; of him I say 'Albie left in his wake memories of good deeds, good work ethics and people who cherish the times we spent with him.'
Sincerely, Mignette Humphrey

My condolences go out to the Evans family. May his son Albie stay strong. I know this is written months later but I am in shock as I read this. I have known Albie(Pine) for over 25 years and was Blessed to see him when he was last here in California during the Summer. I heard from Albie again as he was on the road to Va. I had been waiting to hear of his safe arrival and was quite confused as I had not heard from him again. I decided to do a search and found this article. What a heavy heart I have at this time. I know he is in GREAT HANDS with the LORD and I truly will miss him and believe I will see him again one day. May you rest in peace Albie!

The Coast Guard brought many people into my life albeit for mostly brief periods. Few of them possessed the integrity and work ethic I found in Albie, fewer still gained the trust and confidence I placed in him. Despite the fact that we lost contact after our mutual shipboard tenure I completely understand the feeling of loss your loved ones now feel. You, sir, were an extraordinary man and will be sorely missed by all those who knew you.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

To my long time friend and colleague whom I have had the pleasure of many interesting conversations while cutting holes in the Caribbean Sea. Over the years our paths have crossed from time to time and with an occasional phone call as we looked back at how we survived the ups and downs of a military career and the turmoil’s in our personal lives. Whether it was talking about our sons or working out or how I ever convinced you to go over the gunwale in heavy seas on a dark night we always ended up laughing and acknowledging we were just a little crazy. I have missed you but I know I will have the honor of your company once again. Fair winds and following seas my friend.
