Brian McWhorter Memoriam

BRIAN McWHORTER
Brian and his twin brother Bruce, came into this world after a long day of hearing familiar, joyful sounds that hinted of a party. Their mother, Gwen, baking a cake. Their sister Cheryl helping prepare for the event. Finally the buzz and laughter of youngsters' having ice cream and cake, ' after' singing that wonderful song "Happy Birthday to you". It was Cheryl's 6th birthday! The birthday dinner and movie, were put on "hold"! A fairly fast drive with their father, John, took them to the hospital where Mom was busy for awhile. Eureka ! Three birthdays on the same day!
As pilots are known to say, when a fellow pilot leaves this world, Brian
"flew his last flight into the West", one year ago, July 3rd, 2008.
He was predeceased by mother, Gwendolyn Veach McWhorter and his twin brother, Bruce L. McWhorter
Brian is sorely missed by his entire family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. especially by his loving wife Sue List
McWhorter, his dearly loved father John Lee McWhorter and his special caring sister, Cheryl.
Being born and raised in South
Miami, FL, we all remember : -- His 1st flying lesson by his father at age 7.
His love of nature, plants and flowers, hunting and fishing. South Miami
Elementary school. (separate class rooms for he and his brother). Graduating from Southwest H. S. graduating from FIU in 1976 , and being the youngest co-pilot ever hired by
National Airlines in 1977 (which led to his years as) Pilot Capt. Brian Lee McWhorter for Continental Airlines. Falling in love and marrying his dear wife, and being a great dad and role model for his stepdaughter and stepson, Heather and David. Moving his family to Alpharetta, GA , so his commute to Newark Airport would give him more' home' time.
Survivors Sue and her son David List, (wife Tammy and 4 month old son), daughter Heather (husband Chris George and baby son due in Nov.), father, John Lee McWhorter, sister Cheryl & husband Bill Star, niece Karen Star Gottlieb (husband Geordan and 4 children), nephew Mark Star, 1 Uncle, 2 Aunts and many, many cousins and many "family friends" have missed him greatly and always will.

Brian has been on my mind a lot over the year since we lost him. I am so grateful that this memorial message was put in the paper to remind us of how special he was. As his cousin, born two months to the day after the twins, I liked to imagine myself being one of triplets, with Brian and Bruce as my brothers. We grew up in Miami, went to FIU at the same time, and while our lives took us in different directions, we ended up less than a half-mile apart in Alpharetta, GA. I will never forget the surprise of seeing Sue at our garage sale, and learning that we were so close. My husband, Bill, and I enjoyed spending time with Brian and Sue, and enjoyed going out to dinner or cooking at home. He liked to sit on his patio and watch the deer come out at dusk to feed on the corn he had left them. Family was centrally important to Brian, and his love for Sue, Heather and David, his Dad (Uncle John), Cheryl, Aunt Viola was always present. When I think of Brian, the words that describe him best to me are: loyal, centered, direct, honest, sly/dry humor, modest, strong, and kind. Love to all,
Gail and Bill Hansen, Alan, Jenna, and Alex
