David Kilpatrick Obituary

David Walter Kilpatrick, 85, passed away on August 9, 2025, at Advent Health Palm Coast Hospital in Palm Coast, Florida.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Nelly (Cann) and Walter Kilpatrick; his sister, Jean (Kilpatrick) Struzenski; his brothers, John and Thomas Kilpatrick; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Julie.

David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth L. (Lewis) Kilpatrick of Palm Coast FL; his brother, Larry Kilpatrick of New Britain CT, his children Donna (Frank) Emge of Stickney IL, Terry (Jimmy) Gray of Bell FL, Paige (Wayne) Fenske of Mountain Home AR, Robert D. Kilpatrick of St Petersburg FL, and stepsons Kenneth (Amanda) Taylor, and Robert (Melanie) Taylor of Miami FL. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren (and counting), and many other beloved family members and close friends.

David took great pride in his veteran status, having served 20 years in the United States Navy, which included two tours in Vietnam, followed by specialized training as an engineman on diesel submarines, including the USS Darter, USS Tiru, and the USS Threadfin. Following his military career, David dedicated 30 years to instructing truck and bus diesel mechanics at Robert Morgan Vocational Technical Institute in Miami Florida, where he shared his knowledge with adults, high school, and college students. His students often spoke of how "Mr. K's" dedication changed the course of their lives, and many went on to highly successful careers.

David and his wife, Elizabeth, were active volunteers, giving their time to the VFW, the local food bank, DAV, Flagler County schools, and the Humane Society. David was also a proud member of the Sub Vets, VFW, and DAV. In his free time, David enjoyed fishing, traveling, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and helping neighbors.

A private service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida, to honor his life and service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in David's honor to one of the following organizations:

VFW Post 8696 Palm Coast, FL (Contact directly for preferred donation method).

National MS Society Mid-South Florida.
