David Kramer Obituary

Dr. David Kramer

February 4, 1928 - July 16, 2025

Aventura, Florida - Dr. David Kramer (1928-2025) passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025 at home with family by his side at age 97. He is survived by his adoring wife of 42 years, Sharon, his children Bill (Alice) Kramer, Cathy (Callum) McLachlan, Jane (Kent) Weiss and Andrew (Beverly) Kramer, step-daughter, Renee Peluso, grandchildren Jessica Pierce, Matthew (Brenda) Kramer, Daniel Weiss, Greg Pierce, Julie Kramer, Rachel Weiss, Samuel Kramer, Lauren Kramer, Samantha (Ryan) Bahn, Bradley Peluso and Melanie Peluso, and great-grandchildren Alexandra Walsh and Charlotte, Claire and Edward Kramer. He was predeceased by his first wife Anita, his parents Lillian and Julius Kramer and his brother Charles.

David, who came from very humble beginnings, was born in the Bronx, New York and moved to Miami Beach in 1943. He graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1946 and started college at the University of Florida that same year. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea, from 1947 to 1948, immediately preceding the Korean War. He returned to college on the G.I. Bill and graduated from the pre-med program with a degree in pharmacy. He attended medical school at the University of Tennessee from 1951 to 1956, and returned to Miami, with wife, Anita, to do his medical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1957.

With 3 young children in tow, Dr. Kramer began his medical practice in 1958 in Opa-locka, Florida at his office appropriately named the Opa-locka Medical Clinic, where he continued for 65 years until his retirement in 2023. As a general practitioner/family medicine physician, he delivered babies in the early years, made house calls, performed tonsillectomies and appendectomies, set broken bones and provided medical care to 3 generations of the citizens of Opa-locka for over 6 decades. He was honored by the City in 2004 by having the street next to his office named "Dr. David Kramer Street". In addition to his regular patients, he provided medical advice and services to his large and ever-growing family and circle of friends throughout his career utilizing his extraordinary diagnostic abilities combined with his pharmaceutical training.

In addition to his medical practice, David engaged in an incredible amount of athletic and social activities with friends and family. He was an avid scuba diver for over 40 years and spent countless days diving and spear fishing with Sharon, children and grandchildren off of his 46 foot sportfisherman, the "Jubilee" (and its predecessors) in the waters off of Miami, the Keys, Bimini and throughout the Bahamas. He snow skied for 30 years in Colorado, Utah, California, Canada, Switzerland and Argentina. He was a competitive tennis player at the Diplomat, Turnberry and Williams Island and a golf member and avid golfer at Turnberry and Ft. Lauderdale Country Clubs.

He travelled extensively from St. Petersburg, Russia, to Israel and North Africa to Patagonia and many points between. He honored/humored Sharon by learning to Waltz and Tango and regularly enjoyed a good cigar and fine scotch (later tequila).

He was the epitome of poise and charm, and his advice and counsel were sought by family, friends, patients and acquaintances throughout his life. An incredible husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, physician and friend.

No better example of a life well lived. He will be forever remembered and sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024, Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 11:30 am.

I started my paving business in 1972. Starting in 1978 until Dr Kramer retired any of my employees that suffered any type of injury they were sent to Dr Kramer. Never once when Dr Kramer took care of my employees did any of them hire an attorney or seek any legal representation due to the extraordinary care Dr Kramer offered them. From the day that he closed his clinic all of the above changed dramatically. Dr Kramer was one of a kind and was missed when he retired. May he rest in peace!

We send our deepest sympathy to the Kramer family. Dr.Kramer was my mother's doctor. She was a resident of Opa Locka since 1950. I never knew her to have any other doctor. She loved Dr. Kramer and spoke very highly of him. May he rest in peace. Singleton family.
