Edward Russell Obituary

Edward Russell, M.D.

February 29, 2024

Miami, Florida - Edward Russell, Ed, Eddie, Dr "Bow Tie", husband, father and grandfather, passed away on February 29th as the sun rose over Miami. A humble man, he was always quick to serve and help those less fortunate. He believed in giving back to his community. He was a Korean War veteran, a camp counselor at Camp Fiesta for the children of The Childrens Cancer Caring Center, an usher at Christ the King Lutheran Church, a member of the University Of Miami Iron Arrow Society and a firm believer in supporting our Veterans. He loved to read about history and was a fan of Winston Churchill- Never Give Up! An early member of The Bath Club and later Riviera Country Club, also a member of the Benedicts, and the International Wine and Food Society. He wouldn't miss his Miami Hurricane Football games or Miami Dolphin games both in person and from the comfort of his couch in his later years…. But always with a hot dog on game day.

He was born and raised in New York, NY and educated in Switzerland, Connecticut and Miami. He worked for the University of Miami Medical School and was a professor of Radiology and Surgery. He worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital for over 40 years in various roles including Director of Diagnostic Radiology. After he retired from clinical work, he was the director of Radiology at the VA hospital in Miami.

Devoted husband, beloved father, poet, world traveler and avid golfer, he will be missed terribly by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Janice Falkanger Russell, daughters Kristen (Sean) and Karen (Justin). Grandchildren Nicholas, Spencer, Courtney, Audrey, Charlotte and Elizabeth.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday April 6th, 1p at Christ the King Lutheran Church with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you call an old friend and share a meal and drink, or two in Ed's honor.
