Ernest Yaroshuk Obituary

Ernest Yaroshuk, Sr.
September 1, 1941 - December 16, 2022
Miami, Florida - Born in McKeesport, PA, Ernie developed his lifelong love of sports in a park across from his father's mercantile store in Duquesne, PA, with the help of his brother Frank. When he was 12, he moved to Miami. He attended Miami Jackson High School, the University of Miami, and Appalachian State Teachers College. He played baseball for the U and was later inducted into the University of Miami Hall of Fame and Iron Arrow Honor Society. Ernie also played professional baseball. When he walked between the lines, he was there to win and was a tough competitor. Ernie was a teacher for a brief period of time. Following that, he spent 37 years in the airline catering industry where he made many lifelong friends and traveled extensively. Throughout his life, he had many friends that he enjoyed spending time with whether that was on the tennis court or the softball field. They were all very important to him. Ernie enjoyed helping those in need, serving as a volunteer for the Special Olympics, he believed "they are the real heroes." He was a religious man and always sought God's guidance in everything he did. He was a loving husband and loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 55 years, daughter Paige Tews (Scott), son Ernie Yaroshuk, Jr. (Dawn), Grandchildren Erin (20), Emma (17), Ryan (17), and Landon (14), as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of Ernie's caregivers for the kindness and compassion they showed him. A private service and burial are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

My heart is heavier today having just found out about Ernie's passing. Our paths only crossed a couple of times but he made a positive impression on my life and the world is a lesser place without his presence. We spoke about his baseball career including his time with the Miami Marlins and at University of Miami, amongst other highlights. My condolences to his family. You all are in my prayers.
