Jerome Kramer Obituary

Jerome A. Kramer

May 4, 1926 - March 4, 2025

Wellington, Florida - Dr. Jerome (Jerry) A. Kramer, M.D., age 98, of Miami and Wellington, passed away peacefully on March 4. Born on May 4, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Morris and Ethel Kramer (his brother Alvin, predeceased him).

Jerry was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, mentor, hero, and cherished friend. He served as an unwavering source of wisdom, guidance, and strength for his family.

Jerry served in the Navy during World War II. Following his service, he attended the University of Pittsburgh and married Gloria, the love of his life since their high school days.

Remarkably, he was admitted to medical school after just three years of college, completing his undergraduate studies while excelling as a top medical student. To support his education, he successfully owned and operated a hardware store.

In 1958, after earning his medical degree, Jerry and Gloria moved with their three small children to Miami, where he completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He then established his medical practice, delivering generations of babies and caring for tens of thousands of patients who deeply respected and loved him. He was renowned as a remarkable diagnostician and developed sharp radiological skills, as well.

A true Renaissance man, Jerry's passion for learning and living life to its fullest was limitless. Jerry was a beloved patriarch, a distinguished physician, a dedicated oboist with the Miami Philharmonic Orchestra, a successful business operator, a talented photographer, a master of calligraphy, an avid traveler, and a skilled boatman and fisherman. Amazingly, Jerry built, with his own hands, his family's beautiful home in Pittsburgh and a magnificent, professional-grade studio and darkroom in their Miami residence.

Jerry had an extraordinary knack for problem-solving. Family and friends frequently sought his valuable and insightful advice. Indeed, he took over and successfully turned around a friend's failing business, at no charge. While in his 70's, he took-up tournament bridge and quickly achieved advanced life master status.

Jerry's greatest joy was his family. Jerry enthusiastically assisted his children and grandchildren with their schoolwork, coached his grandchildren and their sports teams, traveled for his son's debate competitions, taught his children boating, skiing, and fishing, and took the whole family on trips across the U.S. and Europe. Jerry's relationship with his loving wife of 44 years, Gloria, was beautiful, unparalleled and universally recognized by all that knew them, as exemplified, for example, by their having always taken long walks, hand-in-hand, and rarely being seen without each other. His presence and support made for an incredible life for him and his family.

Jerry's life exemplified the power of passion, dedication, and love, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Gloria. He is survived by three children, Douglas (Amy), Wendy (Glenn), and Scott (Eileen), six grandchildren (Brian, Michael, Alexis, Danielle, Jennifer, and Garrett) and eight great-grandchildren (Adrian, Ezra, Bradley, Brandon, Sebastian, Romie, Drew and Sydney). He is also survived by his companion, Darryle Forrest. Many other family members and friends who cherished their time with him will sorely miss him. Jerry was respected and loved by all for his kindness, companionship, loyalty, and wisdom.

A private funeral service and burial took place on March 6 at Mount Nebo, Miami.

I´ve had the great pleasure of knowing Dr. Kramer for many years through my friendship with his children. He truly personified the Renaissance man- he knew so much about so many different topics and excelled at everything he did. Most of all, his love for his wonderful family was his most outstanding quality and will be his enduring legacy.

I was just thinking of Dr.Kramer the other day before a friend told me that he had passed away. He truly was one of the most brilliant people that I have ever met. I always looked forward to seeing him. He always had thoughtful tidbits of advice for me, personally as well as professionally. We had many conversations about so many subjects. He was very devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren. I admired him greatly and I will always remember the times that I spent with him.

Dr Kramer was a friend of my uncle Dr Robert Hyams. As a result we started using Jerry as our Dr when we moved to Miami in the late 1950´s. He even took care of my 1st child. Jerry had a great business mind and whenever he came into our store (Leon´s) to pick up only soda´s, he would spend many hours reviewing our business plans. He had the great awareness to open his practice in the wee hours of the morning so that working patients didn´t have to miss time at work. He was one of a kind...RIP

Our family Doctor throughout my childhood until his retirement. A fine Doctor and a gentleman. As I recall, an excellent photographer, as well. Many thanks, Doctor Kramer.

My father, the late Martin Taylor, M.D., began his 50-year private-practice career as a medical doctor, as Dr. Kramer's professional partner at the already-established office on Coral Way, in Westchester (Miami), in the late 1960's. Throughout my childhood, I heard my father speak often about "Kramer"... In particular, Dr. Kramer's extreme intelligence. My father was forever grateful for the golden opportunity provided. I always knew that, 'Dr. Kramer gave Daddy his start as a doctor.' It was that solid-foundation beginning, which provided-for / supported our family. So, I too, felt appreciation for Dr. Kramer's important, early, highly-favorable role in our lives. Dr. Kramer's remarkable longevity is a glorious testament to his healthcare brilliance! May our heavenly father now eternally bless the spirit of this great man, who graciously blessed my father.

I met Dr. Kramer when his daughter Wendy (my college roommate at UF) brought me home with her one weekend. He was so kind and loving. I hope his memory will become a blessing to all who knew him.
