Odessa Fiorini Obituary

FIORINI, ODESSA WYTIAS, of Coconut Grove, passed away on Tuesday, October 6th, 2009. Odessa was so many things to so many people; a loving wife, a devoted mother, a doting grandmother, a trusted friend, a champion of many charities. To all of those who knew her, Odessa wasn't the sun she was a star, a magnificent star. A magnificent star that truly loved life. Seeing her made you know that everything would be okay. She cared so deeply for her family and friends. Odessa's friends were her circle of joy and her family was her circle of love. Nothing brought Odessa more happiness than to plan a family holiday celebration or a memorable trip. And it was that love of travel that took Odessa all over the world from China and Dubai to Hong Kong and Africa and all points in between. Even though Odessa loved to travel she always looked forward to coming home to her gardening and flowers. She would often say every flower was her favorite but when it came to trees her favorite were the aspens of Vail. Odessa would always say her heart was in Miami but it was in Vail where her soul resided. Vail was Odessa's delight, her bliss, her own slice of paradise. There was never a ski run, a golf course or hiking trail that Odessa didn't conquer. She equally looked forward to the first snow fall and the beautiful spring flowers. As with her home in Coconut Grove, her home in Vail was adorned with pictures. Pictures of family and friends some of which were framed in her famous photo collages. If anything represented Odessa's life it was her collection of pictures of anniversaries, birthdays, trips, holidays and of course her friends. Odessa treasured all her friends. The friends from the early years at Miami Shores Elementary, Miami Edison Senior High School and the University of Florida to her bridge group and book club. When it came to her friends, Odessa's sensitivity was extraordinary. She never missed a birthday or special event. No matter what the occasion she always made it fun and memorable. And at the end, Odessa worried more about others than herself. She let her family and friends know she was thinking of them. How cherished were those wonderful notes in her distinctive hand writing. In truth, she did everything she could-and more-for each of us. And for those of us who knew and loved her-she graced our lives and will forever be our magnificent star. The family respectfully suggests donations be sent to the Odessa W. Fiorini Memorial Gift Fund at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Odessa made the world a brighter place, and all those who knew her are a little diminished with her passing

Odessa is an enigma – so difficult to put into words.
She is *THE* most genuine, personable, open, friendly, loving person that I have ever known. When you talk to Odessa, you feel like you’re talking to your best friend that you have known forever ……

50 years ago Odessa stole my heart – she a 9th grader and me an 8th grader at Horace Mann Jr. High. What a gal! Odessa taught me courting manners and many other things that I use to this day.

Odessa lives on in all the people whom she touched – be it in passing, friendship, or family.

I, like all who have known Odessa, will miss her terribly but will remember her often with love and adoration.
