In loving memory of Father Paul Edward Komarc, the inaugural shepherd of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church. As another anniversary of your departure arrives, the echoes of your teachings, the resonance of your homilies - which I still revisit frequently - and the fervor with which you embraced our community remain ever vibrant. Your absence is keenly felt, a void in our hearts that yearns for your wisdom and warmth. Alongside your dear friend, Father Andrzej Pietraszko, your combined legacy continues to shape and enrich our faith community, leaving an indelible imprint on our journey of faith and fellowship. Your presence is deeply missed, yet your spirit lives on, a guiding light in our lives.

I really miss our talks, your teachings, and your guidance. Our cell group meeting on Saturday mornings. I am glad you were the vehicle God used to bring me back to church. I am so sorry for not living up to your expectations. You are loved and deeply missed. You and Fr. Andrzej are still very important in my life.

I find it hard to express our feelings for Father Paul. He and Tony became aquainted in the early 1980s when Father was at St. Michael's in Miami. They became fast friends and stayed in contact over the years. Father Paul has been involved in all of the important things in our lives. He was a mentor for us before we got married, he prayed for us when we were trying to have children and prayed over my belly when we thought I might be losing one of them (I didn't, thank God). He blessed three of our homes when we moved, and had remained a very important part of our lives even after we moved to Pittsburgh. We looked forward to his annual visits and will miss him TERRIBLY this year when Labor Day comes and he will not be here. To his family we would like to say "Thank you" for raising such a wonderful loving man and supporting his choices in life. We would like to send a special blessing to his nephews and let them, and his entire family know that they are in our prayers.

Good bye, Father Paul, until we see you again.......

I was devastated to hear of Father Paul's illness and death. He was a great priest, a great man, an inspiration. His sermons were down-to-earth and riviting. He was, without a doubt, one of the best and most inspiring Pastors I've ever met. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be very sorely missed. I am sure he is with his Father and at peace now.

i was extremely saddened to hear of father paul's illness and passing. after my husband john past away 3 years ago i moved from miami after living there for 35 years to merritt island closer to my son and daughter in law. father paul touched my heart in so many beautiful ways. since we were both of slavic heritage and byzantine catholic we shared our love of icon art. he inspired me to build him his own private chapel for his home since at the time his words to me were " shirley, i may never have my own church, so would you build a small chapel for me?" during the 6 months it took me to create his chapel after my working hours, it was one of the most peaceful, prayerfull moments of my life. father paul said, "shirley, when you create your art it is your form of prayer," which to this day i always will remember those wonderful words since i knew in my heart it was so very true. i was so thrilled to learn of him being at st. katherine of drexel. my son jonathan popovich attended christopher colombus while father was there. father paul brought a slavic all male soccer poster from his visit to europe so jonathan could see all the blond blue eyed men just like jonathan along with the traditional beautifully colored easter eggs which i to this day have displayed for his remembrance. i truly was very blest to have the distinct honor and privilege of knowing father paul. his laughter and spirit will always remain in my heart. may his soul rest in eternal peace. with my deepest and heartfelt condolences, shirley warholic popovich

i was extremely saddened to learn of Fr. Pauls death on saturday morning. I am proud to be able to call him my friend. he was always there for my family and in fact re-married my parents. i met father PAUL while a student at columbus highschool and since then our friendship took off. i am a religion teacher at columbus today because of him. he was a man of strength, faith, appetite and generosity. He did so much for me and my family and as he did for so many other people and families. Clearly the Lord needed him in Heaven more than on earth. that just shows you what kind of person he was and more importantly what kind of priest he was...... he will be sorely missed.

Fr. Paul Edwards was a good friend of my family through his love of wrestling. I also knew him as a fine priest while I had the honor of working for Msgr. Bryan O. Walsh at Catholic Charities. Fr. Paul helped my family through the loss of my mother years ago and now he is in our prayers with thanks.

I met Father Paul at St Colemans in Pompano Beach, where I was a student. He was a deacon then, and I was there the day he celebrated his first mass. How far he has come! I enjoyed his company when he came to my families home for dinner on several occasions and I am proud to have had him as my sponsor for Confirmation.

Godspeed Fr Paul

What a small world we live in! I worked at Sacred Heart Parish and enjoyed then Father Paul's presence. He baptized my daughter, Lauren. Fast-forward to 2005 in Brandon, FL where my current pastor, Fr. Proulx informs us his dear friend, Fr. Paul will do a mission and come up from Miami. I just had to attend and was so glad I did! His words, his prayers were most inspirational and most of all, real. As Grandmothers would do, my mom talks with Father after a mission, pulls out a picture from her wallet of her granddaughter at her Baptism. We chatted a bit, catching up on lost time. A few months later we are looking at touching pictues of our Pastor with Fr. Paul in Lourdes, beautiful pictures. This past Palm Sunday, Fr. Proulx spoke in such a beautiful manner of his dear friend of many years, I know Fr. Paul was so proud. Thank you for blessing my daugher through baptism, thank you for all the inspiration and may your family find comfort in knowing you are at peace. Say hello to my mom in heaven, please. What a difference a year makes, for both of you.

When I first went to mass at Indian Trace and met Father Paul, I knew that he was the pastor we needed for our new Church. I am where I am in my faith because of him and I'm sure that he has left his mark on alot of people, especially the community of St. Katharine Drexel which he was so intent on building. May he rest in peace.

Father Paul was so much more then a pastor. He was a teacher, a counselor and someone to guide you through the hardships of life. For these and many other things he will be sorely missed. There is a hole in my heart for the priest who guided me and my family through tragedy and triumph. Though we knew he was ill and that this day would come it does not soften the blow of losing a wonderful man, a vibrant spirit and a purveyor of Christ. May we always remember those who showed us the way.

“Do not let your heart be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my fathers house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be”. John 14:1- 4

We met Father Paul while he was at St. Jerome. He always had a smile and a kind word to share. May God bless his family and give them the strength and comfort during this time of need and may Father Paul rest in peace with our heavenly Father.

Fr. Paul was such a special person to my family. He has been there in times of our fun and laughter and happeness and at the times when you need someone's shoulder to cry on. He also has been there to help me to keep my faith and for that I will always thank him. To his family we send our prayers and love to all. Thank you for letting him be the special person that he was for all of his friends and people he came into contact with.

Gerry & Jim,

I am so sorry about Father Pauls passing. He was too young to join his heavenly father. I know what it is to loose a child. I shared many happy occasions with Father Paul. We were on several Cursillo teams together, when he was the Spiritual Director and I was a Cha Cha. Then when he was at Saint Mark Parish it was many sharings. It was especially fun during the Carnival weekend. I was one of the money counter in the counting room for 15 years, and he would come in many times during the 4 day weekend to check things out, and make us laugh. He was a good man. May I ask where the Komarc addition on his name came from. I never seen him referred to in that manner before.

Just it case the signature doen't ring a bell, I worked for you for 18 years Jim. We have many, many, many fond memories. Since the last time I was in you and Gerry's company, I myself have married, so you might not know the name.

In closing my prayer is that God will watch over Father Paul's soul, and grant him eternal peace and happiness.

Love & Hugs,

Dottie (Smith) Petro

Father Paul was a wonderful person and friend to my family. My father taught with him at Columbus and became fast friends. He will be missed greatly.

In memory of Father Paul Edwards-Komarc:

We don’t know really what to say, or what to write, we learn from Father Paul that words don't change anything without actions to support them. This is Life.

First time we met him over 4 years ago at Indian Trace Elementary School; we really did not know how much will be learning from that day on. He was so close to our hearts, we felt what he tells us, he feels how we was suffering and he was trying to help us in any way.

He was a dedicated pastor, brave, courageous and fearless man, honorable citizen, grateful son, and a forever friend.

His memory will be etched in our heart for eternity.

Father Paul will be missed by all who seek the truth. With the guidance of Jesus and the help of the Holy Spirit will be working hard to keep his work and the faith alive.

We would like to extend our heart filled sympathy to all of his family.

God bless him, and let him settle in peace after all those glorious years on Earth...

Sincerely,

Gabriela, Annette and Gustavo Usabal
