Raymond Grimm Obituary

"There Was More To This Old Man Than Just A Bag Of Bones" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Grimm, Ray Howard, Age 88, passed away September 2, 2017 in Birmingham, Alabama. Ray, a long time employee of Eastern Airlines (1946-1985) was born in Miami, FL and graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1946 at age 17. He went to work for Eastern Airlines and in 1950 volunteered for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force where he was an aircraft mechanic and spent 3 years stationed near Munich, Germany with the occupation forces as STAFF SARGENT. While there, he drove all over Germany, France and Austria. He also flew on aircraft missions taking engines and parts to downed aircraft, and he drove V.I.P.'s to various locations such as London, Dublin, Oslo, Lisbon, Paris, etc. On returning home, Ray went back to work with Eastern Airlines where he worked for 39 years. He moved to Hollywood, FL in 1957 and retired in 1985 remaining active until his passing. Ray loved working on projects and learning new things - from gardening, to plumbing, to electrical, to laying tile. He also enjoyed learning from medical books and picking on a guitar. He loved country music and the beauty of guitars. He loved B.B.Q. ribs, fried chicken and ice cream. He loved the ocean and the beach - blue skies, black clouds, sunshine and the rain! There was more to this old man than just a bag of bones. He leaves behind the things he loved the MOST - his beloved nieces and nephews and all of their children. Raymond is preceded in death by his father Clifton Awtry Grimm Sr., his mother Ruth Awtry (Lawshe) Grimm and his three brothers Clifton Jr., Bill and Charles Grimm. Raymond Grimm was appreciated, loved and cherished. He will always remain in the hearts and minds of his family and friends; especially his nieces Cheryl Groth, Lisa Bishop and Karen Grimm. Family will receive friends at Conrad and Thompson Funeral Home on Friday, September 15th 9-10am (511 W. Emmett St. Kissimmee, FL 34741). Immediately following, friends are invited to drive to Greenwood Cemetery (1603 Greenwood St. Orlando FL 32801) for a military graveside service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made "IN MEMORY OF RAYMOND HOWARD GRIMM" to Operation Homefront (1355 Central Parkway South, Suite 100 San Antonio, Texas 78232 OR http://www.operationhomefront.org/)

I had the honor of meeting Mr Grimm and his neices, Lisa and Karen. I was very touched by the love, respect and devotion they had for each other! Mr Grimm was so patient and kind to me! I will cherish the blessing I have received from seeing the compassion and never ending love they share which to me made a completed, beautiful family. The time I spent with them added to my life and will help me be a better person, friend, and family member. I was especially blessed by Mr Grimm's perseverance and courage! He defined faithfulness and strength and was a true blessing to my heart! ! I send my prayers, love and thankfulness to you always!
With Love,
