William Whitner Obituary

BENNETTSVILLE — Dr. William Church Whitner, Jr., age 82 of Bennettsville, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024, at The Manor in Florence.

Dr. Whitner was born December 5, 1942, in Bennettsville. He was a son of the late William Church, Sr. and Argent Gibson Whitner. Dr. Whitner was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bennettsville. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Dr. Whitner served his community for several years as a physician at the Lindsay Street Clinic. He enjoyed music and movies. Dr. Whitner also cherished spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Whitner was preceded in death by a nephew, Breeden Bethea.

Dr. Whitner is survived by his sister, Frances Whitner Bethea and her husband Charles, of Marion; nieces, nephews, and several other extended family members also survive.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park.

A time of visitation will be held prior to the service on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Dr. Whitner's honor to First Presbyterian Church PO Box 627 Bennettsville, SC 9512 or McLeod Hospice PO Box 100551 Florence, SC 29502. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.bfhbennettsville.com.
