Robert Wampler Obituary

Robert "Bob" Wampler was raised by his parents Paul and Bess Wampler on the family homestead on Seven-Mile near Fort Klamath, Ore. The family relocated to Chiloquin, Ore., to be closer to schools. Bob graduated from Chiloquin High School and remained in Chiloquin, where he went on to help his father operate the family's logging and ranching business, which he later took over from his father and continued to operate until 2007 when he passed the logging business on to his sons. He did not want to stop working on the Seven-Mile ranch, though, and continued going to the ranch on a regular basis until November 2012 when he tragically suffered a stroke. Bob asked Alice Pohll out on a first date on her 18th birthday, starting a wonderful relationship that continued for almost 67 years. They raised their children Mike, Joe, Scott and Kristi in Chiloquin, moving several times until 1978 when they built their dream home on the banks of the Williamson River, where Bob died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, surrounded by loving family. Bob is remembered for his close family ties, his generous spirit, his large network of friends and business associates, his love of the outdoors, his volunteer work with the Collier Park logging museum, for not saying more than what needed to be said, for his love of animals including dogs, horses mules and cows, his fondness of bringing home strangers in need, who seemed to stick around for years, for always crying at graduations, weddings and funerals, and for learning to communicate clearly with just one word "yeah" after suffering his stroke. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Bill and Jim, and daughters-in-law Meredith and Barbara Wampler. He is survived by his wife Alice; his sister Bidge and husband Art; his son Mike and wife Mona; his son Joe; his son Scott and wife Sandi; his daughter Kristi and husband Michael Strizich; his grandchildren Josh, Jake, Tara, Shawna, Christopher, Ryan, Tyler, Mandie, Conor and Lauren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Bob's deep love for family was felt by all of his immediate and extended family. A public viewing will be held in O'Hair-Wards Funeral Chapel in Klamath Falls on Thursday, Feb. 9, from noon to 5 p.m. A service will be held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Klamath Falls on Friday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m., with a rosary to occur prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. for those who want to attend. The service will be followed by a reception at the Klamath County Fairgrounds. A family interment service will be held later in the afternoon at the Fort Klamath Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Friends of Collier Park or a donation of your choice.

Bob was great guy and he and Alice were good friends of my parents. I remember a few Logging Conferences in Eugene where Bob was the star of the show. His droll humor and that look in his eye when he was having a good time made me laugh until I cried many times. He will be missed.

To all the Wampler family. I want you to know how deeply sorry I am for the loss of a good man and friend. I have the greatest memories from working in the woods for you guys. Bob will always be in my heart, in my memories and always someone who I could call as a friend, but yet a great boss. I loved making him laugh, smile and he always made me feel like family. So I want to thank all of you for being so good to me, and allowing me the time to work in the woods so that I could get to know a super great guy who always had a dog named Oscar with him. Lol Bob will be missed, but he is in heaven now and with the angels above. They have a great guy there now, and he can fly all over and check on all his loved ones from the heavens above. Just know you are in our thoughts and prayers, and his legacy will live through all of you as you carry on the traditional name and memories that Bob made in his life time. Love you all,
