Fred Smith Hatchett

HATCHETT, Fred Smith, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 11, 2016. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Arch A. Hatchett and Louise Smith Hatchett; brothers, Arch Jr. Hatchett, James Hatchett of Nashville, and Thomas Hatchett of Goodlettsville; and sister, Mary Lou Hunsberger. Fred is survived by a sister, Martha Jane Rhodes of Jacksonville, Fla. He was a member of the Charlotte Heights Church of Christ. He was educated in the public schools, graduating from Cohn High School class of 1947. He earned his B.S. and M.A. degrees from Peabody College. He served in the USAF four years in air traffic control. He worked in the public schools of Nashville for 35 years. Fred was active in family genealogy and was a longtime supporter of the Franklin County Historical Society. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fred Hatchett Scholarship Fund, Lipscomb University College of Education or the Franklin Historical Society or to a charity of one's choice. The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 10 a.m. at West Harpeth Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held on Fri-day, May 13, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service (9 to 10 a.m.) on Saturday, May 14, 2016.
