James Duncan Obituary

DUNCAN, James Edward, age 69 of Estill Springs, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Franklin County on July 27, 1948, to the late Willie Wendell and Lucille (Ray) Duncan. A very patriotic man, he joined the United States Army on his 18th birthday, serving during the Vietnam War. During his time in service, James earned several medals including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He retired from the Winchester Post Office where he had been employed as a mail carrier. James was a member of the Faith Baptist Church. Before his illness, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing, and he was a lover of all animals. James will be remembered as a kind and loving man who would give anyone the shirt off his back, and for his love of country. He loved spending time with his family, especially his two great-grandsons whom he referred to as his "Buddies." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Anderton. James is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Janyce Duncan of Estill Springs; children, Portia Duncan of Estill Springs, James Kevin Duncan of Estill Springs, Kathy (Gary) Hice of Tullahoma and Curtis (Karrie) Tucker of Winchester; grandchildren, T.J. Hice, Casey Tucker and Janna (Kelly) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Payton Holliday and Jax Anderson; sisters, Doris Tankersley of Tullahoma and Glynda (Wayne) Hopkins of Estill Springs; brother, Ray Duncan of Estill Springs; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 13, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 1st Ave. N.W., Winchester, TN 37398 in charge of local arrangements, 967-2222.
