Raymond Joseph "Ray" Kafer Jr.

KAFER, Raymond "Ray" Joseph Jr., age 81 of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 13, 1935, in Bronx, N.Y. to the late Raymond Joseph and Anne Konoplin Kafer Sr. Ray served in the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Ray loved his pets, the New York Yankees, and was an avid John Wayne fan. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Hall Kafer and children, Calamity Jane Hodges, Thomas Ronnie Steele, and Thomas Donnie Steele. He is survived by children, Effie Wimley (Jim) Neal of Belvidere, Betty (Doug) Stewart of Angel Fire, N.M., Maudine Parker of Decherd, Pamela (Joe) Owens of Decherd, and Vachel Lynn Owens (Johnny) of Decherd; 21 grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester with military honors bestowed.
