Jamie Benson Obituary

Jamie Lee Benson, 23, is breathing free and easy in God's loving embrace and walking hand in hand with her maternal grandparents, Buddy Shirley and Grandpa Virg Hoy around Heaven's pond.
Jamie was born Nov. 9, 1985 in Grand Rapids, Mich. to Jim and Joanna (Hoy) Benson and passed away on April 30, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Although Jamie had lived in Grand Rapids, DeKalb, Ill., Overland Park, Kan., Denison, and Jenks, Okla., she was a Texas girl at heart. She graduated from Mounds High School in 2004 and attended University of Central Oklahoma and Southeastern Oklahoma State.
She worked for Christine J. Coke M.D., Oral and Maxofacial Surgery in Allen for the past three years. Jamie was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at birth, but never allowed the disease to define or limit her. With Jamie it was not the years in the life, but the life in the years.
Her interests included the Tennessee Lady Vols, country music, her guitar, songwriting, her truck and all its accessories, tattoos, Cattleman's biggest steak and potato meal, wearing camo and watching Fox News. However her passion was spending the weekends with her family and friends at Dock 31 at Grandpappy Point on Lake Texoma.
Jamie touched the lives of many from the very young to the very old, having special friends from 3 years old to 94. Several of her friends were her daily caregivers for 11 weeks during her final hospital stay at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Although very ill at the end, she never lost her quick and contagious sense of humor and her giggle always brought smiles to others.
She is survived by her parents, Jim and Joanne Benson of Jenks, Okla.; paternal grandparents, Bill and Florence Benson of Oklahoma City, Okla. as well as many beloved uncles, aunts, cousins and special friends. She leaves behind her closest companion and truck buddy, Winston.
The Benson family is very grateful for the loving care given to Jamie by her friends, as well as the medical team including Dr. Kellie Jones and the nurses on 2 East and 2 West ICU at OU Medical Center.
A memorial service celebrating Jamie's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Grandpappy Point on Lake Texoma, with Rev. Tom Graves presiding. To further honor Jamie's memory, please wear camo, orange or camo colors and casual of course!
Friends may wish to remember Jamie by making memorial contributions to: C.F. Solutions (a non-profit pharmacy assisting cystic fibrosis families with medication costs), 7471 E. 46th Place, Tulsa OK 74145-6305.
"May we all heal ourselves and never leave before we are gone."

Jim and Joanne you are in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time. Jamie was a fighter and her spirit will be missed by those of us who knew and loved her,and by those her life touched. I will always think of her everytime I see a Sea Doo boat going out on lake Texoma. Her laugh, her smile and her spirit lit up the room. I know that she is lighting up heaven now. God Bless you and your family. Renee' and David Winter

I believe one of God's purposes for Jamie's life was to give life to others - those of us who might be drifting through life mindlessly. Jamie cherished her days and through her example, many of us have chosen to do the same. As Jamie always said, "May we all heal ourselves and never leave before we are gone." I wish I could have told her she will never be gone from our hearts, and we will always remember her courage, humor, and wise comments.....but, I think she knows that already. God bless you Jim and Joanne for sharing your most priceless gift with us. Linda Riley and Tony, too.

My Jamie, at every corner I see something that reminds me of your smile or something silly we did together. I will always remember the fun times together and the memories we shared. You taught me so much about life and love and I have you to thank! I can't wait to see winston and give him so love.

She has taught me so many things in her short time ! The biggest things I would lke to take away form this situation for myself is loving unconditionally, grabbing everyday by the horns, and raising a little hell !!! ( I wanna be like Jamie)
