JOHN ANDREWS
John William Andrews, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend entered this world on August 1, 1940, in Bonham, Texas. He peacefully entered glory on January 26, 2024. He was the cherished son of Richard Wilson Andrews and Dorothy Cooper Andrews.
John's early years saw him graduate from Sherman High School in 1958. Following his graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy that same year. Serving both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps, John began as a medic aboard the USS Monrovia. His dedication led him to Delmar College, where he trained as an x-ray technician. In August 1961, he transferred to Camp Lejeune, NC, becoming a combat Corpsman before receiving an honorable discharge in 1962.
Transitioning to civilian life, John entered the car business, marking the beginning of a long and distinguished career. He worked at Graff Chevrolet in Grand Prairie, Texas, and later at Vandagriff Chevrolet in Arlington. He was eventually promoted to the position of Manager of the Irving Dealership, and later became the Manager of Johnson Chevrolet in downtown Dallas. In 1968, John purchased Chase Chevrolet Company in Sherman, Texas. Following the sale of Chase Chevrolet in 1986, he owned and operated various ventures, including Valley Chevrolet in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma, Grayson Leasing, Epar Leasing, Grayson Flying, Grayson Restaurant Supply Co., Grayson Investments, John Andrews Insurance Agency, and John Andrews & Associates. He worked as the General Manager of Randall Noe Auto Group in Rockwall and in his later years, he found joy in selling RVs and spending time with friends and customers, sharing stories and memories.
John's civic contributions were vast and impactful. A 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, he was an active member of the Sherman Rotary and served as the Chairman of the Sherman Economic Development Committee at the Sherman Chamber of Commerce. He played a pivotal role in securing the Folgers and LOF Plants' openings in Sherman and served on the Board of Directors of Texoma National Bank and the 1st National Bank of Sherman.
John is preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce Andrews Lamb, brother-in-law Carl Lamb, nephew Billy Lamb, brother James Andrews, niece Velvet Andrews, grandson Chandler Fetterolf, and first wife Sherry Andrews.
He is survived by his brother Richard (Betty) Andrews, sister Barbara Boykin, beloved children Crystal (Bill) Fetterolf, Amber (Scott) Carter, Sean (Kristen) Andrews, and Blake (Ashley) Andrews, grandchildren Audree (Ricky) Perdue, Aaron (Ally Howerton) Carter, Caitlyn (Corey) Marshall, Case (Marlee) Rolen, Trenton Fetterolf, Cash Carter, Troy Andrews, Charlsee Carter, and Jaxson Andrews. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends, including life-long friends Robert and Lana Brueggemeyer, as well as friend and caretaker Kelly Cook.
Special thanks to Dr. Minaxi Rathod, Wilson N Jones SICU, Patient Experience Coordinator Cheryl Brandon, and the entire hospital staff who honored John's service with a special red, white, and blue honor walk.
Much love and gratitude to his beloved niece Beth and husband Ron Schnitker, and sister-in-law Carolyn Andrews, who will be coordinating the after-service reception.
In remembering John (Johnny), let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, generosity, and lasting impact. Beyond his professional accomplishments, John's true success lay in the genuine connections he fostered, creating lasting memories with his family. His quick wit and clever humor brought joy and laughter to every gathering. May his legacy live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, January 30 at Waldo Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Waldo Funeral Home with Rev. David Murphy officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at West Hill Cemetery with grandsons Case Rolen, Cash Carter, Aaron Carter, Troy Andrews, Jaxon Andrews, and Trenton Fetterolf serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Corey Marshall, Randall Noe, and Robert Brueggemeyer.
