KENNETH SHIRES

KENNETH SHIRES Kenneth Joe Shires, age 84 passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at home in Sherman, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Kenneth was born in Gordonville, Texas on December 13, 1938, son of Cecil and Ethel Shires. He was a 1957 graduate of Denison High School and served in the United States Army. In 1962, Kenneth was assigned to Task Force Echo, 720th Military Police Battalion, 4th Army, when he escorted James Meredith into the University of Mississippi, in Oxford, Mississippi. He then later served in Southeast Asia. Kenneth was an avid Baseball player who played in Highschool through the Minor Leagues. He was a lifelong fan of the Texas Rangers. He retired from Libby-Owens Ford in 1999. Kenneth was survived by his daughters Michelle Bates (Keith) of Pottsboro, Rayleen Bohannan of Lubbock, Joanie Baker (Ronald) of Sherman, and a son Joseph Shires (Cody) of Sanger, TX, grandchildren, Aaron (Shelby), Drew, and Ty Bates of Pottsboro, Casey of Lubbock, Jacob (Samantha) of Denison, Tiffany of Bonham, Joshua of Gunter, Johnathan (Jessica) of Fort Stockton, Jessica of Denison, and Abigail, Joselyn, Lexi, Zoe of Sanger, Tx; with numerous great grandchildren. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Ethel Shires, a son Johnny House II, a daughter Kenda Cox, grandson Marshall McBee and his loving wife of 38 years, Linda Shires. Celebration of Life was held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Fisher Funeral Home in Denison, TX. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and compassion provided by Shanna Gallinoto and Guardian Home Hospice during our loved one's battle with cancer.
