Megan Getrum Obituary

Megan Getrum was 36, when her full life was ended too soon. Her friends know Megan enjoyed yoga and loved her cats. In work she really enjoyed helping people solve problems using her computer skills. Problems she could not solve with code she patched with chocolate chip cookies. (At least everyone felt better after eating the cookies, a trick she learned from her grandmother.)
Friday night was game night for Megan and a group of friends who have been meeting for over 15 years. They shared a passion for strategy and role play. Through hundreds of games their friendships have remained strong.
Megan inherited a gene for wanderlust from her grandparents. She took her first trip abroad in high school and had since traveled on her own, building friendships while hiking the trails of Scotland, Ireland, and Peru. Her last big adventure took her through India accompanying her grandparents. I think they had a contest to see who could take more pictures! On trips she collected exotic snacks to share with us upon her return, like strange Indian curried peas and Scottish Nessie gummy worms. Patagonia was next on her bucket list and I believe she will go there in spirit. If you were her friend, light a candle for her in a far away place.
Megan Getrum is survived by her parents, Leonard and Diane Getrum, brother Jeff and grandparents Frank and Barbara Cochrane. A memorial will be held in her memory at 10 am, May 6 at the Oak Point Nature Center, 5901 Los Rios Blvd, Plano, TX 75074. Dress is Hawaiian shirts or Friday casual. We ask that in lieu of flowers you donate to one of these charities in her name.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I will sorely miss you sweet Megan. We liked so many of the same things, kayaking, food, nature, you will be in my mind when I do those things again and I hope that somehow you can enjoy them. Peace to you and all who love you.

The last time I saw you was in the Target parking lot about 3 years ago. You were growing your hair out and it was abnormally windy. Your hair was blowing around your head just like a lion's mane. I thought it was so fitting for you. You were always so secure in who you were, so independent, so steady on your path. Yet you were also friendly, caring, and stopped to catch up with your friend's sister despite not seeing me for several years. You even made an attempt to talk to my daughter, who was too shy to say much that day. I will always remember harassing you for newspaper quotes in high school, since you always seemed to be working on art projects in the overflow room when I would come in to write my stories. I thank you and Jeff for including Carl in your game days so he could escape reality. I wish I had nagged my brothers a little more about getting one of your paintings for me. I miss not knowing you are here traveling, laughing, and exploring, but I know you will carve out a place of beauty and whimsy in your new home. I pray that your family and friends find peace and solace during this time.

Megan was a sweet, quite soul that kept to herself and her beautiful cats. I would enjoy visiting with her as she stood at her front door with the door open and one of the cats would be sitting at her feet, looking outside and never crossed the threshold. I laughed and told her I wished my dogs were as well behaved as her cat. You would see her reading outside on her balconey on a beautiful day or tending to her plants. I wish I had gotten to know her better and am thankful for the short time I did have with her. Many prayers to her family and friends.

Oh sweet, dear Megan. You were a joy to work with at Masergy. I enjoyed all the times that our work was delayed because circuit stuff was sent to you (instead of me) and software design/development was sent to me (instead of you). I remember all the laughs we had and I cherish our friendship. Your life was snuffed way too soon. We love and miss you. Peace be with you and your family. God Bless.
