ROBERT GARY PEWITT

1950 - 2020

After a protracted battle with cancer, Robert Gary Pewitt passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 21, 2020, in Denison, TX, at the age of 70.
Gary was born on May 2, 1950 in Fort Worth, TX to Carroll Edwin and Oleta Faye (Hosea) Pewitt of North Richland Hills, TX. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Wesleyan University, his Master of Education degree from Texas Woman's University, and he was a high school teacher and coach for 49 years in both Texas and Oklahoma.
Gary's life changed forever in 1973, when he became a father to his son, Kyle Coby Pewitt of Richardson, TX. Gary married his loving wife, Tammy Buchanan, on July 24, 2004, where he helped raise her son, Hunter Story of Kingston, OK, in a beautifully blended family.
Gary was a driven professional with a love of fishing, golf, and football. When diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2019, he remained dedicated in his work and in his will to fight his illness. He remained a brave, faithful educator at Bells High School in Bells, TX, even throughout his final months.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, survived by his wife, son and stepson; his sisters, Carol Hallows (Gary Wayne) of Richland Hills, TX and Cindy Baker (Mike) of Fort Worth, TX; former spouse, Louise Pewitt Getz (Phil) of Richardson, TX; nephew, Jason Guerrero (Kelly); niece, Courtney Parrish (Reid); and numerous other family members.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there was a private funeral service at American Funeral Home in Denison, TX, on Saturday, December 5th, 2020 at 1 PM. Richardson Police Department Chaplain Larry Lowe lead the service, which was streamed online for guests.
