Robert Sylvester Obituary

Robert Morris Sylvester, Sr. passed away Wednesday, December 7th in Denison, Texas. While we will miss him here on earth, we know he is rejoicing in joining his Heavenly Father whom he so faithfully served his entire life.

Robert was born October 22, 1929 in Goldsboro, Maryland to Morris and Mildred Sylvester. Robert attended high school in Maryland and college at Grayson College in Denison, TX. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, joining in 1948, and fought bravely in the Korean War. He was discharged in 1966. On August 9, 1952 he married Patsy Ann Harris in Greenville, Texas. They moved to Texas in the 1960s where Robert worked at Perrin Air Force Base. In October of 1962 he became the first Air Force civilian to receive a private pilot's license from the Aero Club. Robert was a founding member of the Perrin Air Force Base Museum and served on the North Texas Regional Airport at Perrin Field Board of Directors.

Robert and Patsy owned and operated a local jewelry store in the 1990's where he was known for designing and making beautiful wedding rings. Robert was also a realtor in Denison for several years. He enjoyed supporting local businesses and was proud to have bought the first fiberglass boat from the Yellow Jacket Boat Company in Denison, TX. Robert was a ham radio enthusiast and would love showing his grandkids his radio room while teaching them how everything worked.

Robert was a very Godly man. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, always worshiping at church or spreading the message of the Bible. He always wanted to make sure the people he came in contact with believed in God and that they knew to make Him the center of their life, as he had done with his. Robert was a member of Morton Street Church of Christ for 55 years where he served as an elder for many of those years. Robert was truly a very special man. Much to his wife's horror, Robert went skydiving on his 70th birthday to the song ""Born to Be Wild"". He was stubborn, head strong, set in his ways, and wasn't afraid of speaking his mind no matter if he offended you or not. You knew where you stood with him, that's for sure.

Robert is survived by his wife, Patsy, of 64 years; son Robert Sylvester, Jr. and wife Karen of Denison; daughters Andrea Bratcher of McKinney and Janet McDonald of Denison; and Bob Bratcher of Denison. Robert is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Brandon Oliver, Brad Sylvester, Kyle Sylvester, Ashley Brooks, Allison Alexander, Evan Sylvester, and Leslie Barnett; 4 great-grandchildren, Landon Sylvester, Colton Alexander, Claire Sylvester, and Bree Sylvester; and sister-in-law Frankie Lowry of Bells, TX.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Oliver, Brad Sylvester, Kyle Sylvester, Bob Bratcher, Brian Barnett, and Ryan Alexander.

Service was held at American Funeral Services in Denison on Saturday, December 10, at 11 a.m. with family hour immediately before at 10 a.m. Howard Horton officiated. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Terrace of Denison Activity Department.

My Dad was a very special man in my life, for many reasons. He taught me and the whole family about religion and how important that was to everyone's lives. He Taught me everything about the Jewelry Business, which helped me further when I went to work at Zale's and Gordon's Jewelry Stores. I have a lot of wonderful memories of our times together at the Jewelry Store in Sherman. Dad was a very hard worker and loved bickering with customers about the prices. He loved to make people laugh, and he always went the extra mile to do good for other people. He was a good man, father, grandfather, and will be missed much by all of us. I want to thank my brother Robert for all of the time he has spent with my dad and mom during this hard time and my sister Andrea, for all the hard work she has done also. You both have made this difficult time easier, by all of the kind things you both have done. I love you very much Dad and will miss you always. We are just blessed that you are no longer in pain.
