RONALD MCKINNEY Obituary

RONALD WAYNE MCKINNEY Ronald Wayne McKinney, 73, of Sherman, Texas passed away on July 28, 2024 at his home in San Antonio, Texas. A proud Air Force veteran, affectionately known by his family as McKinney, JoJo, Ron, Papa, Grandad, Wayne, and Mijo, passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Born on September 23, 1950, in Sherman, Texas, his years were filled with the enduring warmth of family, and the steadfast loyalty of friends. During his time in the USAF, SMSGT McKinney traveled the world, making lifelong friends and memories, receiving numerous decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal. His commitment to service continued after his retirement in 1997, when he then devoted an additional 20 years to the United States Postal Service. Anyone who knew Ronald witnessed his undeniable loyalty and love for the Dallas Cowboys and his family and friends. He enjoyed working on "projects" around the house, playing poker, spending time with his grandchildren, and sharing life lessons with his family. His gentleness earned him the title of "baby and dog whisperer", and he was a master "negotiator". His resilience in the face of adversity was honorable and he lived life with passionate purpose. His departure is mourned by a community that recognized in him the quiet strength and the steady, reassuring presence of a man anchored by his values. McKinney's commitment to living a life of purpose and kindness has left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have crossed his path if even for a brief period of time. As we honor the memory of Ronald Wayne McKinney, we reflect on a journey well-traveled, a life well-lived, and a legacy of love, respect, and integrity that will forever resonate in the hearts of those he touched. May he be at peace, and may his spirit continue to guide us in moments of quiet reflection. Ronald is survived by his wife (Valerie), sister Claudia Louise, his children and their families; Anthony (Tamika), Ronald Wayne Jr. (Sylvia), Demetria, Madeleine, Avery, Sebastian; as well as 10 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laura Helen and William Raymond Sr. and siblings Barbara Ann and Raymond Jr. He will be dearly missed. A viewing and celebration of life will be held at Castillo Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas on August 8th, from 4pm-8pm, with funeral service at 6pm. A graveside ceremony will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on August 9th at 9:45am.

First and foremost condolences to the family. A great man and leader. A man of wisdom. When I was Inducted as a CMSgt I mentioned him as someone who helped turn me around. His blunt and direct leadership was needed. Without him there is no way I would have made it as far as I did. I wish I would have conveyed this to him. Talk about regret. I will see you on the other side brother.
