Virginia Utter Obituary

DENTON - Virginia Viola Bishop Utter, 93, of Denton passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012. She was born on August 5, 1918 in Ringling, Okla. to Frank Bishop and Elsie Bonin Bishop. She married Bill Utter in 1940 in Houston. Virginia attended the Houston Business School, and was a member of the St. David of Wales Episcopal Church of Denton. In her earlier years, she worked at Humble Oil and Refinery and Bill Utter Ford.

First of all, she was a mother and homemaker who always strived to be the best Mother and Wife that she could be. She never missed a sporting event, dance recital or any type of event that her children participated in. She loved to play bridge with several bridge clubs.

She was involved with the PTA at all of her children's schools and volunteered when needed. She worked as a den leader to her sons' cub scouts groups and to her daughter's brownie troop. She joined the SMU Mother's Club and was active all eight years that she had children attend there. She became a KA Mom and a Tri-Delta Mom…again, volunteering whenever there was a need.

Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at DeBerry Funeral Directors Chapel with a visitation/reception to follow at the Club Level at Apogee Stadium, University of North Texas. Parking will be available on the west side of the stadium.

Memorials may be made to: The Spina Bifida Association of North Texas, 705 W, Ave. B, Suite 409, Garland, TX 75040. Or to: The Bill and Virginia Utter Music Scholarship Fund Acct. #F0548. Checks payable to: University of North Texas Foundation, 1155 Union Circle #311367, Denton, TX 76203-1250

Virginia is survived by her son, Bill Utter Jr. and his wife Monica of Argyle, and their children, Bailee and Trey; son, Bob Utter and his wife Betsey of Gordonville, and his son, Blake Utter of Sherman; and daughter, Barbara Utter Tomes and her husband, Bob Tomes of McKinney, and their son, Brandon Tomes of Dallas.

Barbara, my thoughts and prayers are with you on the loss of your sweet Mom. She was such a classy lady! I used to love to come to your house in Denton when we were at SMU. How wonderful that she and your Dad get to celebrate the joy of Easter together in Heaven. Cherish the memories. Love, Marianne
