WC NIX Obituary

WC "DUB" NIX, JR. Affectionately known as "Dub" to family and friends, Dub passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at approximately 5:00 a.m. in Celina, Texas, at the age of 84. Born on December 19, 1940, in a farmhouse in Daingerfield, Texas, he was the last surviving child of Willie Columbus Nix Sr. and Nora Pearl Lile. Dub was the fifth of six children and was preceded in death by all his siblings: Billy Eugene Nix, Wilma Pearl Koszakovszky, Truman Max Nix, William Wayne Nix, and James Timothy Nix, as well as his oldest son, Scotty Mac Nix. He grew up in Daingerfield, Texas, where he attended Daingerfield High School and developed a lifelong love of sports and the outdoors. After graduating high school, Dub moved to Dallas at age 17. He began working at Buffalo Electric on June 3, 1958, starting in the warehouse and later as a truck driver before moving into sales at age 22. In 1971, he co-founded Maverick Electric, where he built a successful career until his retirement in 2001. Dub was also a dedicated Mason and Scottish Rite member and spent 20 years officiating high school football. Dub was first married to Judy Jean Teal, with whom he shared four children: Scotty Mac Nix (deceased), WC Nix III and his wife Jennifer, Tammy Jean Adcock and her husband Brad, and Preston Loyd Nix and his wife Mary Beth. He later married the love of his life, Carolyn Nix. Dub and Carolyn were married for 41 wonderful years. Carolyn brought two children from her previous marriage, Holly Rice and her husband Mark, and Craig Brantly, into the family, and together they built a loving and supportive home. Dub adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren included: Hunter Nix and his wife Sara, Jade Carlson and her husband Nick, Hannah Brown and her husband Jacob, Halyn Adcock, Preston C. Nix and his wife Dellanie, Payton Wilburn and her husband Josh, Palmer Nix and his fiancée Ally, Presley Nix, Porter Nix, Paxton Nix, Kameron Nix, Kalison Nix, Ava Brantley, Kyle Rice, Rachael Rice and her husband Dusty Williams, and Katie Ruffin and her husband Brandon. He was also survived by six great-grandchildren: Bode Nix, Riley Brown, Zella Brown, Lakeyn Wilburn, Violet Wilburn, and Samson Ruffin. An avid outdoorsman and competitor, Dub enjoyed snow skiing, participated in several 100-mile bike races, and ran multiple marathons. He devoted 38 years to coaching little league and youth baseball, shaping the lives of countless young athletes. After retiring, he treasured the moments spent with his friends and family and found great joy in his 4-wheeler adventures to Silverton, Colorado. Dub left behind a legacy defined by faith, perseverance, and generosity. His commitment to family, friends, and community touched many lives, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Visitation was held on Saturday, August 16th, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Gunter, followed by a celebration of Dub's life at 3:00 PM. Pallbearers were: Hunter Nix, Preston Nix, Palmer Nix, Porter Nix, Jacob Brown, Nick Carlson, and Brandon Ruffin. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Gunter for the children's playground. "Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day." Yesterday

I worked with Dub for years in the electrical industry and soon realized he was an icon of the industry. In addition, we spent time together watching my children and his children participate in various sporting events. He was a legend in his Santa Claus suit every Christmas as he visited nursing homes and retirement homes in the area bringing joy to everyone he encountered. To Carolyn, his children and the rest of the family, we extend our heartfelt sympathy in this loss and hope you realize Dub made the world a better place by being here.

Yesterday

My kids only knew him as Santa Clause! He and Carolyn would drive up in an old roadster type vehicle every Christmas. He would be carrying jingle bells and had a sack of goodies for the kids. Seeing our children´s eyes was priceless! Dub did this many years for our family, and we will cherish those memories forever.
