Dan Kier Obituary

Dan Kier

Dan Kier, was born February 14, 1975, in Seattle, Washington. He died July 9, 2012, at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Washington.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Francis L. "Chuck" Kier; and his grandparents, Harold and Lenore Crowder, Anna Marie Prestella and Homer L. Kier.
Dan grew up in Mountlake Terrace and attended St. Pius X School. He was an Altar Server and a member of Boy Scout Troup 60, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle. Dan earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Shoreline Community College. He was a member of the Mountlake Terrace Police Explorers.
Dan was employed at Safeway for nearly 20 years and also as a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Lynnwood for a short while. Most recently Dan was employed at the Boeing Company in Everett.
Dan has lived in Snohomish for several years and was active in his community. He coached baseball for North Snohomish Little League. He coached basketball and was a member of the "Watchdogs" at Riverview Elementary School. He was a member of the American Legion Post 96.
Dan enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hiking, camping and hunting. He encouraged family and friends to "stop by and hang out" at his home. He enjoyed cooking for them especially barbecues in the summer and holiday dinners. Dan tried bull riding; but, decided breeding and raising beef cattle suited him better.
Dan is survived by his mother, Alice; his sister, Kelley; his precious children, Johnny and Kimmy; his fiancée, Erin Putman; his nephews, Brandon Delaney and Payton Haggett; and his "father figure" Larry Herres; and many good friends.
There will be a Mass to celebrate Dan's life at St. Pius X Catholic Church 22301 58th Avenue W. in Mountlake Terrace on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Internment will be at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Dan's home at 4225 87th Ave SE, Snohomish, WA 98290, and all funds will be deposited into an Educational Trust being set up for Dan's kids.

Every day Dan came up to the door at work he had a smile and a story, even if he was tired from working at home. When other guys would come up and swear in front of me he took great offense to it and asked them not to do so in front of ladies. I always giggled at that. He was a young man with the morals and manners of a gentleman our generation rarely sees. His laughter is and will be missed for a long time.

I went to high school with Dan and while I didn't know him very well, I remember his smile and what a nice person he was! Sending my thoughts and sympathies to the family.

Dan was my son"s first basketball coach. Our paths crossed again in baseball and school functions at Riverview. Always ready with a smile, he was great with the kids and I am sure his positive outlook has made a lasting impact on everyone who was privileged to know him. He will be missed and our prayers are with his family.
