Daniel Dennis Flaherty passed peacefully with family by his side on January 13, 2022.
Daniel was born January 19, 1929 at Eastsound, Orcas Island Washington to Roy and Agnes (Angevine) Flaherty, the youngest of 9 children.
Daniel graduated from Central Kitsap High School, Silverdale Washington in 1948.
He served with the US Army.
On September 19, 1950 Daniel married Arlene Ruth Unick.
Dan and Arlene had 4 children.
In the mid 1960's he began his career in telecommunications, eventually retiring from Pacific Telecom in May 1991.
On October 29, 1971 Dan married Marilyn Jean Anderson Wright, affectionately nicknamed Pie, and joined their two families together with a total of 9 children.
He was passionate about his family, fishing, gardening, the great outdoors, painting landscapes, music and playing the trumpet.
Dan and his brothers tagged many trophy deer in Bjork Canyon, one of his favorite hunting areas.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents and his 8 siblings. He leaves behind his children; Carolyn (Doug) Flaherty, Ken (Carol) Flaherty, Colleen (Steve) Flaherty, Kelly (Randi) Flaherty, Stepchildren Jan (Tony) Smith, Bob (Linda) Wright, Deb (Monty) Pate, Don (Susan) Wright, Lisa (Andrew) Jackson.
These, along with a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren cherished and loved him dearly.
Memorial service and internment will be held this summer on Orcas Island.
