Donald "Ike" Woods

1931 - 2024

Donald W. "Ike" Woods was born on January 19, 1931, in Cresco, Iowa. He passed away on May 28, 2024, in Monroe, Washington, surrounded by family. He was 93. Our hearts are heavy with loss as we say goodbye, but full of gratitude for the experience of his love, intelligence, and sharp wit for nearly a century.

Ike was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his son, Don. He leaves behind his children, Marnie and Brian Anderson, Rick and Christie Woods, Tracey and Dan Wedler, and Deede Woods, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a plethora of extended family and friends.

Ike spent the last 15 months at Regency Care Center in Monroe where he and his family were surrounded by loving and professional staff and wonderful residents we now consider friends. The gracious and caring staff of Evergreen Hospice ensured that the end of his journey was peaceful for Ike and the family who surrounded him. His sharp wit and quick sense of humor were with him until the end.

Ike's heart, however, was always at the beautiful home he and Mary built at Lake Roesiger, where family and neighbors were one and the same. Remarkably, all their children eventually settled within a couple miles of the family home.

A proud union plumber, volunteer firefighter and fire commissioner, retirement found Ike tired of "watching it rain," so he and Mary went south in search of winter sunshine. For nearly four decades, he relished winters filled with friends, happy hours, golf, and remote-controlled car racing in sunny Yuma, Arizona.

Ike's family and friends will gather on June 15, 2024, to celebrate his life well-lived and to share memories and union-made beer. Please contact Ike's children for details if you'd like to join us.
