Erik Buxton Obituary

Erik David Buxton, age 38, born in Peterborough, NH, and a resident of Everett Washington, passed away in his sleep on April 27, 2018. His heart was just a little too big. He had just purchased his first home, where he and the love of his life, Rachelle Witt, had planned to do a lot of grilling and gardening. Erik was employed by Verizon and had just received an award for the third consecutive year for exceptional sales and customer service as a Solutions Specialist. He placed ninth out of six hundred associates in the Pacific Northwest. He was a 1998 graduate of ConVal High School, Peterborough, NH, and a 2002 graduate of New Hampshire Technical Institute, Nashua, NH. He loved "connecting" with people and if you knew him during his college years, there is a 99% chance you own a Cutco knife. But his greatest accomplishment was achieving sobriety. Erik traveled a challenging road. Through all of his ups and downs, his love for his family and our love for him, kept us all going. We never doubted he would succeed in living a happy, healthy and purposeful life, and he did. He had a big heart and gave great hugs. He had the gift of making people feel good in his presence, and he as kind. We are forever grateful to those who stuck by his side, and ours. His life is a success story and he leaves a legacy of hope. He is survived by his parents, Dave and Deb Buxton, Peterborough, NH; his sister, Jenni Buxton, her partner, Tim Akeley and their daughter, Lucy-Lynne; his uncle, Mark Ergmann, York, ME; cousins, Stephen and Jessica Ergmann, Exeter, NH; Nathan and Rachel Ergmann, Walnut Creek, CAf; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased in December by his much- loved aunt, Nancy Ergmann, York, ME. Erik is also survived by the love of his life, Rachelle Witt. There will be a celebration of his life in June, in York, Maine, where he fished with his dad and cousin Stephen. The Erik D. Buxton Scholarship Fund has been established in his memory. Donations can be sent c/o NEFP, PO Box 186; Greenfield, NH 03047.

Eric, was always a kind, funny, amazing person to talk to! I first met him when I was working at Buckle in Alderwood Mall. Hed always come in my store and shop (being such a tall dude) was hard for him to find jeans his length. Later on found out he worked in the mall as well, at Verizon. Hed always bug me to switch services. I finally did. Knowing Id probally hate the service but it was more than that. He was a friend, I took care of him and he always took care of me. If I needed anything Id be sure to bug him. No matter what Eric always had a positive attitude. He was funny, energetic and outgoing. Later on, I finally moved up to Everett and hed always talk about getting a drink together since closer in location. Sometimes life can be a little busy and we dont slow down for people that deserve it. I will truely miss Eric. He was too positive of a person to be gone yet. I still cant beleive it. My heart truely hurts Eric, miss you man. I hope you Rest In Peace brother.

Dear Erik, I never had the chance to know you, but I do know how very much you were loved by your parents and family. Midst joy and sorrow which seems to be always a part of life, you were a gift to those who were a part of your world and life. You shall be very much missed.

I am so very sorry to learn of Erik's death. Although I did not know him very well when he was growing up in Peterborough, he was in the same class as my son Erek. Deb, I remember one of our telephone conversations when
they were adolescents. I know his family's life will be changed forever now. The blessing in all this- though you will not feel it yet, is that we had our sons for as long as we did and were able to see them successful as young adults in recovery.
Sincerely,
Linda Scerbinski, Erek's mom

Erik was larger than life. Quick to smile and to offer a hug, he put others at ease. My husband and I met him at the Verizon store where he worked. When he learned I was friends with his mom, I'd like to say we got special treatment. But we noticed everybody got that same treatment. And it was special. He was so very kind and attentive. We saw customers choosing to wait for him to be free, even though there were other sales people available. He was the kind of guy you could meet only once and then find yourself missing him somehow. And we do miss him. Our hearts go out to his loved ones.

Our sincere condolences to Erik's parents Deb & Dave, his sister Jenni and to Rachelle. We were delighted to get to know Erik through his parents and his family, Mark, Nancy, Nathan and Steve Ergmann. Though he didn't see us often, Erik always had a warm smile and hug- a glad to see you connection with us that I will always remember. I applauded his work successes and his celebrations of sobriety- 'talking' through Facebook. We will miss you Erik.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss Debbie, David and Jenny. Frankly it's the world's loss, Erik was always kind, friendly and easy to talk with whether you were his friend or not. Hearing about his sobriety makes it all the sadder. Life really is better sober! It's heart breaking that god had other plans for him and didn't give him more time to enjoy a sober life with his new home and women. R.I.P Big E, we will all join you someday until then tell Teddy Dalton, Adam Nation-ames,Ian Kelly, Danny Wilson, Erik Scerbinski, Zeb Weston and Matt Hall I say "Hi" and will think of you all from time to time.

Dear Deb, Jenni and family, my heart aches for your loss, and sendings comforting prayers your way. Erik did sell me the Cutco knives and they are still being used every day. I am blessed and honored to have had the opportunity to witness Erik's passion for life, joy in his relationships and diligence in his ambitious work ethic. Erik, had an undeniable tenderness and charismatic demeanor on the many occasions I had the privilege of spending time together.

I would be difficult to forget the goodness that Erik epitomized...he walked this life with his chin up and let his actions speak for himself. His character, unwavering, his love for life, contagious.

To stand next to him could be likened to having a body guard! His aptitude for good company, and determination to succeed was transient. Through Erik, I learned a great many lessons, and am taken-a-back hearing of his passing, however, I know that the impact of this loss is paramount to those left behind, the family, friends and significant other, but given what this man accomplished regardless of life's uncertainty, i will say to many that will be reading this...his gift to us is hope, for what life can be even to those who struggle similarly, to what can be achieved with the proper mindset and love within the heart, and will leave us all to remember more of what is actually possible because of his life.

Thank you, Erik, for your life and example to so many including myself. You will be missed. RIP Brother.

~Blessings to your family in these tough times.

This was such a beautiful tribute to him. I'm sure that he's looking down smiling at all of the people that he was close to. He seemed to be an amazing person from the pictures that I would see Rachelle post of them together. He's always with the people that he's close to and the people that he inspired. When you lose someone you love, your heart will always feel empty until you are with them again. But just so know that they never actually leave us, they are always with us even though we can't see them. Prayers go out to his family and Rachelle.

I went to college with Erik and he never did sell me on those knives. We spent many nights cramming for finals, helping each other with homework, watching 24 and having long philosophical conversations. Erik was kind, hilarious and had quite a brilliant mind.
