Gregory Impola Obituary

Gregory Stephan Impola, 36, died January 23, 2015 in Kirkland, Washington after a year-long battle with metastatic melanoma. Greg was born May 27, 1978 and grew up in Snohomish, Washington. His family attended the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Shoreline, Washington. Greg graduated from Snohomish High School in 1997 and earned an AA degree from Edmonds Community College. Greg married Kathryn Lappi in 2000 and they were blessed with five children. Greg was a member of Atonement Free Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee. He owned and operated a successful general contracting business, GSI Construction, and in 2013, built their family home in Arlington, Washington. Greg will be remembered as a strong, kind, faithful and humble man who loved his family well and desired to live a God-honoring life. His belief in Jesus as his Lord and Savior was unwavering and especially evident in the way that he dealt with the trial of cancer during this last year. Greg is survived by his wife, Kathryn Impola and their five children, Isaac, Lindsay, Luke, Emily, and Nathan; his parents, David and Karen Impola; seven siblings, Cynthia (Tim) Kniffin, Mike (Annette) Impola, Sheri (Nick) Anderson, Matt, Scott, Julie, and Eric Impola; grand-mothers, Barbara Selin and Elma Impola; and by multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by grandfathers, Albert Impola and Edward Selin; two aunts, and three cousins. Memorial funds can be given for the widow and her children at the service or through any Chase Bank branch to the "Kathryn Impola Donation Account." Viewing will be held Friday, January 30, 2015, 4-7 p.m. at Atonement Free Lutheran Church, 6905 172nd Street NE, Arlington, WA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. in the Grace Academy gymnasium, located at 8521-67th Ave NE, Marysville, WA 98270.

It has been my honor to know and serve Greg and his family for many years now. Greg was great at his job, helping me with several remodeling projects at my office. He was also a fantastic father and husband, and a honest and honorable man. I will miss his seeing big smile and hearing his hearty laugh. My thoughts and prayers for Greg and the whole family. You left us too soon, but you'll never forgotten Greg.

We met as strangers, yet Greg welcomed us like family time and time again. Greg was kind and strong, a true God-loving rock for his wonderful family. His generosity touched many, and without everything he and Kathryn helped us with over the years, I'm not sure where we would have ended up. He was truly a godsend, an angel indeed.

God's peace and grace to his family.

Our family got to know Greg and his family several years ago when we moved to Snohomish. Started out with replacing some windows and blossomed into many great projects in our home.
Our family got to know Greg and his sweet family at 4th Of July picnics and other functions at our home.
Greg's character, love for his wife and children, and his Love of God were always very apparent.
As we followed his heartbreaking journey with this disease, seeing his faith never waver, and now reading the poem posted on this site,it reminds us all indeed.... This is only our temporary home.
We will continue to love and miss you Greg....Until we all see you again! Pam and Jay

I met Kathryn quite a few years ago through MOPS and she will always be one the sweetest friend that I made from that time. I met Greg later when our boys played baseball together and one thing that I still remember is how much he smiled. . .I will never forget his smile. May God surround you all in peace, comfort & rest as you navigate this season. Much love, prayers and hugs Impola family.
